Just received an email from a US Mint rep who I contacted last week concerning actual numbers sold of the Dolley Madison's and Yellowstone UNC Commemoratives. Different sources quote different numbers and, based on the following figures the two Commems in UNC are not as low mintage/sales as indicated by some authors who should be in the know.... So, without further adieu, here are the numbers:

Subject: Numbers Sold on the 2000 Dolley Madison UNC and Yellowstone UNC Silver Commemorative Dollars

Dolley Madison
Silver Proof 158,247
Silver Unc 22,948
2 Coin 66,156

Yellowstone
Silver Proof 128,646
Silver Unc 23,614
2 Coin P&U 58,949

I am not getting the point you are trying to make, those mintage numbers match the numbers in the RedBook exactly

There are authors out there that are promoting the investment in "low mintage" modern commemoratives due to their low numbers. The two commems I listed are among them. Evidently the two coin sets were not taken into account when the books were written. This has been a topic on the CCF before - ergo my latest post from the source (US Mint)... PG

So did that author just use the # listed against the UNC grade and not include the 2 coin set amount?

So really for both (if you add the 2 coin set mintages) they are actually:

Dolley Madison
Silver Proof 224,403
Silver Unc 89,104

Yellowstone
Silver Proof 187,595
Silver Unc 82,563

Is that what you are saying? I think that is what the author missed. It is confusing when they are used as separate mintages for the 2 coin set and the individual coin.

Ok, I think I get it now. I checked an old 2007 edition of the Coin World Guide to US Coins and the total mintages for Dolly Madison are correct but it only listed the single coin mintages for the Yellowstone
