Today I madeva trip to my local coin shop and decided to buy a piece of gold ( first time since 2006) . I ended up buying an 1856 gold 5 franc . Nice coin for 85.00 . Anyone else bought these coins before?

that's a good price for it.

I collect the coins of Napoleon the first. In his days, the gold coins were 20 & 40 F.
During the Second Empire, there were 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 F in gold.
The 100F was very nearly the largest circulating gold coin, at 32 grams.
The U.K. five pound was nearly 40g.

Rest in Peace

Very nice coin.
In a better grade it command a high premium.
In lower grades it's value is close to melt.
