I thought I'd share the Pakistani coins I've collected in the time I have been here! Apparently, before 1961, when everything turned decimal, Pakistan had a different system, where 1 rupee=16 annas=4 pice=3 pie. All the coins I have found so far are post-decilmalisation, where 1 rupee=100 paisa. I hope there is no issue with having such large images- I've noticed the site shrinks them to fit on screen.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
4 versions of the 1 paisa coin. The early ones have both the arabic-looking and indian-looking script, but Pakistan and Bangladesh separated in 1971, so although the 1973 coin had Bangladesh writing, the ones after didn't.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Two 2 paisa coins

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Three 5 paisa coins I have. I also have one from 1975 (like the 1979 one) and an 1985 one (like the 87 one), but they are not in as good shape.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
3 different 10 paisa coins. I have 2 more, one from 1980 (like the 1979 one) and one from 1989 (like the 1986 one), but again, they're not in good shape. After the 10 paisa coins, it seems Pakistan gave up on these cool different shapes and stuck with simple round coins.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
3 different 25 paisa coins I have.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
4 50 paisa coins I have. The one with the face is a commemorative coin on the 100th birthday of the founder of Pakistan. I've also got two more from '86 (like the 87 one) and '80 (like the 81 one).

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
4 1 rupee coins I have. The top two are commemorative ones, the first celebrating the 100th birthday of some figure in the Pakistan independence, and the 2nd celebrating the 1400 anniversary of the Islamic Calendar. The lower two ones are the same, except in size. I've got coins from 1979 like the 81 coin, and 83, 86, 87 and 88 like the 1981 coin. While the previous ones are not in circulation anymore (there is no more paisa), these can still be found, although the newer 1 rupee coins are more common.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
The newer 1 rupee coins. Personally, I think they look like ugly magnetic checker pieces, especially the aluminium one. I believe they were changed because the value of the metal in the previous coins was exceeding the face value. I have loads of these, as they are one of 3 coins that are in circulation now (the other being the 2 and 5 rupee coins).

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Three unique variations of the 2 rupee coins currently in circulation, that I have. Also a 5 rupee coin that I have- the only variation of the 5 rupee coin, as far as I'm aware.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Finally, 3 commemorative coins that I have. Two celebrate Pakistan-China friendship, and one celebrating the 150th anniversary of "Lawrence College".

I'm not sure exactly what I'm collecting, for the later (currently in circulation coins), I'm trying to get all the years. For the newer 1 rupee coins, I have from 1999 (they started in 98), then 2003-2007, then 2010-12. For the 2 rupee ones, I have from 1998 (when they started), then 2003, 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2011. I'm digging through my change whenever I buy something now :D.
I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to get all years of coins less than 1 rupee, at least not from here, unless I find some community or coin shop here. I'm a little worried about some of the older coins having been cleaned, specifically the 1 paisa ones...they seem remarkably clean for something that old with those nicks, and you can see the gunk from the sticky-tape that the seller had them in- still haven't been able to remove all of that.

So yeah...Pakistan seems to have gone through 3 changes to their head- the first one with the calligraphy and smaller crescent and star, then the one with the cresent and star behind that tower, and the last one just the crescent and star. If anyone has any information on who the engraver/designer was, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks for putting it out explicitly; I hadn't thought of it but now it makes total sence.

Heh...yeah, for the longest time, I didn't even realise that some of the coins didn't have clouds. Those ones were only minted for about 1 or 2 years, apparently. I guess they figured out that it looked better with clouds quickly .

I have a couple of commemoratives (in addition to some circulation coins). One of them is with Mohammad Iqbal which you posted above and the other commemorates Benazir Bhuto. I remember how she became the Prime Minister the first time, what a big deal that was. Too bad about the assassination!

Even living in the country, I've not been able to get my hands on that coin. Did you know, I believe that is the possibly only coin in the entire muslim world to feature the face of a woman. Unfortunately, even though I visited one of the main branches of the state bank in the country (the ones responsible for distributing all these coins), they didn't have any of these, which is odd, because it doesn't seem a lot of people were collecting them either.

I may possibly soon get some more coins, hopefully even that one, and I'll update this thread!

I really should've updated this thread with all the new coins I got, but I've been lazy. I'll also show the older coins (since my scans are like that), and comparing what I had then with what I have now, I am worried that the PVC may be messing with some of them.

First off, I now have all the non-PM (there were 5 commemorative silver and 4 commemorative gold coins issued by the Pakistan mint) commemorative coins of Pakistan!
Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
I finally got the Benazir Bhutto one, as well as some of the new ones you can see (took the longest to find the World Food Day coin, and it isn't in the best shape).

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
The 1961 coin is my latest acquisition, where I guess they called it a "Pice" for one year before standardising it to "Paisa".

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
The 1963 one is my newest, with the 5 written in the urdu script instead of english.

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
The 1962 10 Paisa coin (again in the urdu script..seems they gave up on that as well), and the 1971 one (similar to the '64, just smaller).

Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Finally, the 1963 25 Paisa coin, where I guess they decided to have the focus on the denomination value in english instead of urdu like the 10p and 5p ones.

Aside from the gold and silver coins, I now have just 11 more coins before my collection is completed by type (although I'm aiming for by year!).

Whew...been a while since I posted here. Only 3 new coins to report, though, and they're all commemoratives.
Post-Decimalisation-Pakistani-Coins
Left to right, the coins are commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the Pakistan Navy Submarine Force, 100 years of Islamia College in Peshawar, and "The Year of Friendly Exchange" with China.

The Islamia College coin is, unusually for Pakistani coins, not dated. The 100 year celebration was in 2013, which is what is written on it, but the year of minting was 2015. Instead of noting this, however, people who wanted to create controversy created controversy, but I guess they didn't look in their pockets at their 1 rupee coins :D.

Thank you for taking the time to share your collection with us over the years . I never thought that Pakistan would have a submarine force.

Hahah...if there's one thing that Pakistan doesn't skimp on, it is defense. But people often have this idea of Pakistan as more backwards than it is. I mean, compared to the rest of the world it is quite far behind, but it is a country where every person probably speaks at least a couple dozen words of english along with their own language, most adults own a mobile phone, and has to collect their salary through an ATM machine, it has a dozen or so universities in the top 200 in Asia (not the best competition, perhaps), and even a few in the top 500 worldwide.

(I swear I'm not being defensive :P)
But thanks :D!

There are a few rare proof issues of Pakistani coins with low mintages (100-250 pcs.) which are still quite affordable.

The last one I have sold went for around $200, which is well worth the investment considering the population of this country.

Also the proof gold issues are being often underestimated.

Hey coinworldtv! By rare proof issues do you mean gold and silver coins? Proofs of gold and silver coins? Proofs of regular coins?
I don't think I've ever seen a proof coin (even for Pakistani coins, although supposedly there are some).
Would you care to share some pictures? Thanks!

Hello Babar, yes I mean the silver ones (these are too affordable for their mintage), the gold ones are even more rare, but not quite cheap.
