I saw on Son of a gun the other day that this military guy who was a member of an elite alpine division (same division which wreaked havoc in Hitler's backyard in world war II), had them design a similar 1911 44 cal, an add a laser scope an all the divisions cool shields an symbols on the pistol.... Those western rifle art bars always bring a nice premium as I imagine that one there an others do. Real market for the old art bars, an many collectors of them that you may see come out of the woodwork for a coin show, as one fellow who stops by the coin shop when ever he is in town for our local coin show.... One hard to find low mintage WAY over spot set I would like to have for my own collection (which means it may sell in 6 months verses 3, lol), is the seven wonder's of the ancient world collection, from Mount everst mint seems like. One of the seven is real hard to find..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Ancient-W...em3a7133809aThe link above is four of the seven in...the pyramids, Zeus statue, hanging gardens, an Mausoleum Halicarnassus (the rare one seems like low mintage), but can you name the other three anyone? Colossal of Rhodes is another....

I'd think the great wall was one. Can't remember the others. Be a cool thing to do for the old bucket list, though; see all seven.
I did see man billed as the eighth wonder of the world competing in a match as a kid. Of whom do I speak?

Andre the giant, God rest his soul....
Giants never live long, the pressures on their heart is often their undoing....
I got to see Hulk Hogan verses Andre the giant at Thompson bolling arena here locally years back, at least 20 plus. I loved wresting as a child, an it is a great memory. He looked larger then life, even from the second floor up....

As far as ancient wonders there was the Lighthouse in Alexandria and the temple of Artemis I think. Great wall wasn't one.
On topic I think doing a sort of weapons of history series would be pretty cool. I like these gun ones.

Colt put out a five bar proof set that I've tried to win several different times with poor results. And I've seen about a dozen art bars similar in theme to the first one I posted. Probably made in the 70's when art bars were at their peak of popularity. I've heard millions were melted down and recast around 1980 when silver was around $50, or about $125 in 2012 money. Silver has a LONG way to go before it comes near those inflation adjusted highs, eh?

NZ also put out a really interesting set commemorating the Kalashnikov on its 50th anniversary in 2009 and later, the M16 in 2010, I believe. The date might have been the 40th anniversary for that particular rifle, IIRC. The people who designed each weapon, Mikhail Kalashnikov and Eugene Stoner, were geniuses of the John Browning/Samuel Colt variety. Both sets came in boxes shaped like mag clips. Very, very cool. The AK-47 was a 2-coin set which I own but don't think I ever photographed. The single coin Colt M16 NZ $1 proof I've never managed to win... yet.

Considering just how anti-gun NZ is, it is staggering that they produced anything that commemorates firearms of any kind. As to Kalashnikov, don't get too excited by his work. He stole the AK design from the German MP-43/44 Sturmgewehr and made it cheap so that the USSR could produce huge numbers of them. See the following URL for pics of these rifles to see how very close in design the AK-47 is to them: http://world.guns.ru/assault/de/mp-...stg44-e.htmlIMHO, John Moses Browning was the greatest gun designer ever. His list of achievements just seem to go on and on. He was awarded 120 patents for his work. Although he designed many of his guns in the late 1800s and early 1900s, a lot of them are still in use today. The Colt model 1911 .45 ACP, the Browning 9 mm Hi-Power, and the M-2 "Ma Deuce" .50 caliber machine gun are among them.
