I came across this around 1969 or 1970. I always assumed it was a mint error. I've been learning a lot here and the one thing I know for sure is that I still have a lot to learn. So, I can no longer assume it is a mint error.

I read up a little on the Blakely effect and I think I see it but I would truly appreciate some expert opinions.

First thing I looked for was the Blakesley effect, and it sure is there! Nice clip.

Thank you all for taking a look and for you comments.

This coin has a lot of sentimental value to me. I know it's silly, but I'm getting it slabbed.

Awesome find! Let us know how it grades. It would be great to see a photo of it in the slab. Who did you send it to?

Here is some great detail on the Blakesley Effect and clips:

The coin is with NGC. A couple of guys from my coin club figured out how to save a bunch of money by making a BIG submission -- which meant everyone in the club needed to pool their submissions.

I just picked out a couple that had sentimental value to me. I found this when I was 14 or 15....a long, long time ago.

Anyway, I don't know if error coins get a grade. I just wanted to keep it safe and have it verified by the pros.

I might get it back the first week of June. If not then, I won't see it until August because the club doesn't meet during July.
