Very nice! Ever since Steve directed me to his 30-Day thread, I find myself keeping an eye on his activities.

Can you see what is unusual about this stater? They are more rare facing right. Below is a fraction weighing .3g (uncertain what to call it but that works out to about 1/16th of a stater). There are several denominations but I remain unclear on their names. It also illustrates that the heads can swap places. I do not have a stater with the right face inverted. Does anyone?

Doug, that's very interesting...it's the second right-facing eagle/dolphin I've seen. The swapped heads appear to be more common?

Your in denial Steve! You need an intervention. I haven't found a program for recovering coin buying addicts yet, but I'm still looking. When I do I'll let you know where to get the help you need! Meanwhile to start the process in getting the help you need to get completely clean and free of this addiction you need to send that coin to me! Besides the 'owl' coin reverse on these old Greeks, this eagle/dolphin reverse is something I'd love to have. Oh, oh, maybe I'm the one who needs help. Very nice copy Steve.

I know it's completely unrelated (I don't own any ancient coins anyway, nor am I likely to anytime soon), but a few months ago, David Morgan-Mar (of Irregular Webcomic fame) issued a challenge to find a coin literally conforming to the description of "heads" and "tails" - that is, having more than one head on one side and more than one tail on the other. I thought, after quite a bit of searching, that there might be no such coin. No one else in the extensive Irregular Webcomic audience posted with a mention of any, either. However, now that I see this thread, I've remembered this old challenge (which had since sunk well into the depths of the unfortunately non-recorded old poll threads), and the coin in this thread fits perfectly (Fun fact: the Russian version of the heads/tails terms - literally "eagle" and "lattice" - is thought to come from Catherine II's copper five-copeck pieces, which featured a two-headed eagle on one side and a complicated monogram on the other.)

Interesting challenge; I suspect heads or tails simply refers the sides of any coin, therefore the term is plural. Regarding the origin of the term, it's been suggested that the earliest and most well-known coin to represent "heads" and "tails" is the Athenian owl tetradrachm. Here is my coin:
