Hello friends.
Thought I would post what I personally feel is a cleaning success story (and trust me, there aren't a lot of them to tell just yet!)

I always find it really informative and fun to see others results, especially if they can take the time to document some cleaning phases along the way with a brief run down of how they cleaned it.
Here's my latest effort (was surprised and happy to see a less common left facing bust of Constans)
-Kurt
Heavily encrusted!!

After an overnight soak, scrub, and light grinding down with a
DDD. (soldiers revealed, emperor still unknown)

After several more sessions with strictly a pin and pin vise. (clearly Constans, left facing bust was a surprise)

Final result after many more picking sessions.
NOTE: I did do just a little bit of smoothing as the coin looked a bit rough from all of the original encrustations. Also, I did not wax the coin, but instead, rubbed it with some vaseline and let it sit in the sun for a day before wiping it off. Also, the first three photos were taken at night under regular light on my work desk. The final photo was taken at dusk near a window on a different background to try and soften up the image. All taken with my Iphone as my digital camera mysteriously disappeared a few months ago.
PS. I love attributing coins because, being married, it is the only chance I have at being "right" at anything!

So have at it attribution junkies!
