Hello,

Going through my collection, trying to find the coins worth more than spot.

Found these two coins from Panama. 1904 and 1905 50 Centesimos Silver coins.

I'm very new to grading, and I don't know if I'm just too picky, but there seems to be alot of conflicting examples shown across the 'net. Not definitive enough for me to form a solid opinion.

I took these photos with a flashlight at approximately a 45 degree angle, to help show the scratch and bag marks. They do look quite beautiful for their age, but wanted to make sure every flaw shows up in a picture. My 600dpi scanner has the tendency to not show scratches and bag marks that well. Many of the scratches in the photo are not visible to the "naked" eye (even with my 20/10 vision) so the flashlight was to make sure they stood out. If you would prefer a scan I can certainly do that.

2012 Standard Catalog of World Coins has this valued at $100VF/$150XF for the 1904, and $150VF/$200XF for the 1905.

My other question, is the catalog states that 1,000,000 of these coins were melted in 1931. Does the mintage take this into consideration, or is it assumed that only 1/2 of each are remaining?

to CCF!

I'm pretty reluctant to offer opinions of grades, but you've certainly done nothing wrong.

I'm sure there will be other responses, just wait a while. There are many very knowledgeable people here, and grading requests of foreign coins may take a bit longer to get replies.

You've already put a lot of work into your collection, and once you have the required # of posts, you can auction your unwanted coins right here, fee free!

I didn't mean for that post to sound like I was impatient. I just found it odd that it had such a high number of views, and nobody took a stab. Hence me asking if there was some protocol I didn't follow or something. I see many other threads in this section, where alot of users expressed their opinion, and just took a stab at it. I'm a a total newbie and couldn't tell the difference between a VF, XF and AU/BU/MS.

I'm actively on dozens of forums for all my hobbies and interests. Each one has it's own set of rules, way of doing things, vibe, etc etc.

Not sure what the poster's comment was above as I didn't have email notification on... but if it was enough to be edited I can certainly ascertain its intent

I greatly appreciate any help provided, and in no way expect it.

Thanks,
Jonathan

there are obvious circulation marks on the coins, but not a spec of dirt or grime in any of the dings or crevices,

XF harshly cleaned.

better natural light might make them look better (or worse).
