Good Evening; Coin Community.

My name is Sarah Gossen, after my grand-father passed I was left with a box full of coins, buffalo head nickels, half dollars, etc. There was also a 1966 canadian silver dollar, I have heard that there are two varieties one being small bead, the other large. If anyone could help me identify my grand-fathers I would greatly appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Sarah Gossen.

It looks like small bead. I'm no expert by any means but that is what it looks like to me. Welcome to the forum. I'm glad to see that you are researching the coins that are in the collection and not just getting rid of them. Can't wait to hear about what else is in the collection. Good luck and have fun with it. Cheers!

Thank You Samsnate.

I am very interested in Numismatics, lol I hope I got that right.

I love coins, before I inherited these, the only collection I had were ones that I had pulled from circulation.

After finding my first 1928 canadian nickel, I was hooked and began roll hunting. Althouh I've found some coins I beleive to be very neat I am just begining to learn about each era of coins, key-dates, grading etc.

Thank You so much for your help, and kind welcome.

-Sarah.

If it came in a box of coins loose and not a paint can out of the back door of the mint in early 1966 you have a rather ordinary Large bead Silver dollar of 1966 there! All Small bead 1966 dollars are Mint state reverse and Prooflike obverse. It is a contrived mule and very very scarce, having a mintage of somewhere between 485 and a thousand pieces. One of the many many back door jobs of the RCM in the 1960's era! Welcome and good luck in collecting.

Looking at your Picture...yours appears to be a Large Bead. I like to use the placement of the "A" in REGINA. Small Bead the tip of the A points between denticles and Large Bead the tip of the A points to denticle.
