Hi all Been here reading for a few weeks and found you people very friendly and helpful. Interest in notes and coins only started around a month ago. Now to my first question. I kept a couple of $1 and one $2 notes when they were turned to coin. One of the dollar notes bears the number CXD 303818. Would there be any interest in this note with this serial? Notes seems in good condition, but I'm mainly wondering about the serial. Cheers Keith

Trainerman The serial number is a general prefix with the signatures Knight / Stone issued between 1979 and 1982. It would have a book value of at least $20 depending on the condition. I doubt you would get any premium because of the serial number. I guess you could call it a "double radar" but I doubt it would be considered collectable

What have you got in your collection so far? Have you been buying anything or getting coins/notes out of circulation?

Hi enworb Got a few 50c coins stored away. Have a 1992 50c coin, and as you'll know, no 50c were circulated in 92. This one came out of circulation. Made a visit to the mint last week and bought 2 x rolls of the chogm $1 plus the kokoda coins. Have pulled many of the different $1 coins we come across in circulation out. Bought a couple of the first polymer $10 notes. Have a few round 50c pieces. Have the 2 x $1 and 1 x $2 that I started the thread with. This forum, and I mean people like you, have helped with my interest in coins and notes. I have the MacDonald book and am buying the Aust coins and banknotes magazine regularly.

Sounds like your off to a good start. Very wise move buying the catalogue early rather than later. 1992 50c is a good pickup! NCLT in circulation is always great!

Do you know what the term, "Noodle", means?

Hi dibby33 Yes, I notice a few of the people here spend their weekend noodling through the coins they have bought from the bank. It is interesting reading their results. Cheers Keith

& get that collecting happening... More fun for everyone. One of my suggestions is to get a Jewellers Loupe (they are cheap on ebay from overseas, I brought 3 for less than $10 including postage! So I could put one at work, one in my bag & one at home), you're best off going for 30x magnification or above. The reason I suggest a loupe is you can look more closely at the coins you have found for errors & they're also great if you have a camera phone because you can put it on top of the camera phone lens to get a better zoom. Some of Ian McConnelly's articles are fantastic to newbies because it show errors (cuds, lumps, cracks) on coins & a lot are circulating coins. This will allow you to have a better look at a coin & distinguish between a coin worth keeping or not. I've attached a link below in ebay to check out: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...sop=15&_sc=1Get onto the noodling! If you want to know anything about polymer notes, I can help.
