Im not even going to look at it and I can tell you its a risk buying such a rare and HIGHLY COUNTERFEITED coin from ebay. Others will be able to comment on its possible authenticity better than I but time and time again it is said to buy this sort of coin in hand from a dealer which offers an avenue for refund. After its been said so many times it must have some merit.

,what he said,I'm looking for one myself but have all but given up on ebay. The fake coins can be very, very, good, they only are exposed when they turn up at one of the main auction houses and are tested throughly,i think they can use a X-ray technique on the date as well as all the other advanced techniques. http://www.ebay.com/itm/280872983898?ru=http://www.ebay.com:80/sch/i.html%3F_nkw=280872983898&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_okw=280872983898&_oexkw=&_adv=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo=&_sabdhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=Postcode&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_fvi=1&_rdc=1#ht_500wt_1129

Personally I would not bid on this one. As others have said it is a risk of being counterfeit and I'm not will to risk $100+ on ebay. Still at the end of the day the choice is yours. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Cheers Pete

Here is somewhere you can do some homework http://www.thesandpit.net/index.php...23_halfpennyIf you are going to buy a 1923 Half Penny I would stick to one of the larger well known sellers with good feedback. Such a high grade coin from a private seller is a risk IMHO

There's something about the 2 that looks a little odd. To my fake picking 1923 Halfpenny eye, there's something that's NQR (Not Quite Right)...& that's the last thing you want to do to your pocket. If you want to bid on a 1923 Halfpenny that's most likely legitimate have a look at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Australia-1...em2ebdc9c837 from a seller I've brought many items from. I guess the main issues is that it has a tiny spot of verdigris (& possibly more to come judging by the slightly redish patches in places, the obverse is a little streaky, there are a few marks on both sides & the grade's just below a Fine, if it would even grade there. I guess the question is how much do you want to spend? Your best bet save, save, save & get a nicer grade from a dealer...all dealers are willing to negotiate at this point in time. The economy's not that great & every coin dealer I've shown my 1923 1/2D have said there's an abundance at the moment.

I can only talk about ebay in Oz,from 1999 when it started, and there has never been this many 23 halves for sale before and owners/sellers that are prepared to take low $ sales. It all started about 3 years ago, perhaps it does have something to do with the GFC,nearly every week there is a 23 listed, something is not quiet right although nearly everyone sold/listed seems to be from a different seller.

I have bid on a 23 half on ebay just a few months ago. HOWEVER it was from a seller that I have purchased from on several occasions and can trust. It all comes down to one word: TRUST. Ever notice that some sellers always have nice clear photos, accurate descriptions, point out flaws, don't overgrade and get plenty of bids from old hands? They are the only sellers to trust for coins such as'23 halfs, centenary florins etc (and even when you trust them you still need to cut the cards).
