Hi, new to this forum but been purchasing PMs for the last couple of months now. Most of my purchases have been at local coin shops and Provident Metals(excellent customer service and shipping). Silver below 30 now makes me want to make some purchases and wanted to try out Gainesville, but would love some feedback on the online dealer. I did search the forum but didnt get much out of it. Thanks.

Welcome to the board. Never bought there but noticed real fair prices seems like at my last glance, well over a year back....
Provident was a great place to start from a novice stand point no doubt, an also great time to buy now in this dip. Good luck with the hunts an keep us posted pics an what not.....

Have you tried Silvertowne? Their 90% and .999 bars are just above melt with free shipping. I ordered $5 face a few months ago, and got a good mix of coins.

I have purchased from them and have good dealings with them. Their prices are usually fair. I met them at the FUN show and they have a good reputation
Just my 2 cents

Their cash prices are often good, but GC doesn't currently accept any form of cash payment other than wire transfer. Wire fees are expensive (for me, at least) so I've never bought from them before.

I was actually just crunching the numbers on their face value grab bags to make sure there wasn't a combination of coins that would screw me out of some silver...
and they are saying their spot price is based on .715 Troy oz.... but most combinations of of coins come closer to .720-.726 oz. I sent them an e-mail asking if their dimes/quarters/halves bag might contain mercs and barbers and not just roosies and washingtons.
What will kill the good deal is the shipping. $6 bucks (includes insurance).
But also considering I don't seem to have a nice coin shop local where I can buy something similar... and online prices for a Franklin is close to $18 for just one (shipping not included). Might have to try a $1 Face bag for $22 bucks. Will post new thread with results.

Wish I would have seen this thread previously. I bought a bullion 5 oz ATB. Arrived with a huge scratch across it. NO refund. VERY snotty on the phone and in email. They said...."this is bullion and sold exactly as we get them from the mint"....which....is a LIE. They cherry pick and sell off the nice rounds for grading. BUYER BEWARE!!

I have made a purchase with them before and had nothing but great experiences. I emailed their customer service about a $1 FV half dollars only purchase to try for Walkers and I received a quick and very polite email back saying they would put a note on the order but couldn't guarantee the pickers would see it. Very discreet packaging too. Fair prices and fast shipping. I would recommend them.

Here is how see Gainesville fitting into the market. When buying onezie-twozie you have to shop around looking for specials to see who has the best deal. But when ordering where your ounce tally reaches about 20oz+ in silver ( I don't dabble in gold ) Gainesville coin has consistently had the least cost per oz. ( especially on coins that have higher than ASE premiums ) and I check them ALL. Bought my monster box of pandas from them....you don't make a $20,000 investment without doing your homework!

I have not bought from Gainesville Coins and won't because of the comments on here about coins that people received that were damaged but that Gainesville did nothing about. Obviously, I am just taking the word of those who post such comments and have nothing else on which to base this opinion. I have found people here to be honest about what they do and do not like about various vendors.
Still, I do know of 3 other on-line PM sellers who do not have such criticisms directed at them. I had a problem with a couple of 5-oz. bars from SilverTowne once and they bent over backwards to fix it to my satisfaction. I find that kind of attitude worthy of patronage but not the 'too bad, so sad' attitude that some say that Gainesville has.
Search the messages on this part of the CCF web site for "Gainesville" to read these comments for yourself. You can probably email those who posted them for additional info.

I bought $14 face of Washington quarters from Gainesville a year ago. No problem with the order and 6 of the coins were in very nice condition for bulk 90% silver. I sold those same coins back to them today for 95% of spot.

I made one purchase from Gainesville, and it was great. I was using my debit/credit card. They called me, and put me on a 3way call with myself, the Gainesville rep, and a person from my bank, so I could verify my card over the phone for them, to make sure it wasn't fraud. I don't know if that was their idea or my banks idea, but I really liked it, made me feel more secure. The coins I received were well packaged, and looked goooood. I will use them again one day.
