Hello,

Please comment on what you feel the grade and composition of this coin should be.

Does the S mint mark look normal?

The weight of this coin is 5.77 grams.

Thanks,

mdpmedia

The s looks normal to me. The coin definitely looks like a silver clad... and the weight confirms that it is the silver clad strike.

I'm not gonna stab at the grade because i'd be way off.

you really need better lighting, and probably a good wobble to get a grade.

Check high up on the cheekbone, near the eyes, to see if there are any scuffs. check for hairline scratches in the fields. the reverses on these quarters are typically clean and well struck.

If you see no scratches or cheek scuffs, no small hits in the hairline- then you might have an MS-66/67 coin. The coin would have to look exceptional, mind you. If you see even the slightest abrasion marks on Washington's face- it's a MS-64 at best.

It's a 76-S and it isn't a proof so it has to be 40% silver. (Proofs could come either as coppernickel or 40% silver.)

It's always tough to grade from a relatively low-resolution image, but...

There appears to be rub/metal loss on just about all the high points on the obverse -- eye brow, cheek, jaw, neck.

If this is really the case and not just an artifact of the digital image, the coin shouldn't grade any higher than Choice AU.
