What do you think would be a fair price for this guy? I know the toning makes the price higher. What do you think it would sell for?

My personal guess would be anywhere from 80-100.

I think it will go for at least double that... I love this toner. Numismedia says $85 in this grade, and that is excluding this beautiful toning..

I've seen toned coins go for crazy prices because a few folks wanted it (judging from their bids) very badly.

On an auction site, with proper photos, I could see this coin easily going for north of $120.

Prices for toners can be all over the place which can make a coin like this hard to value. Based on what others have auctioned for, I would guess this would be worth north of $200. This coin is stunning and the luster really make the toning pop!

Okay I'm glad to hear your opinion D0ubl3Eagle. I've been seeking a nice toner and I've seen super common dates in ms64 go for over $200. I think this will hit $200 no problem. Hopefully I'm the winner. I want this one badly!

I can appreciate toning as readily as the next, but going 2-1/2x retail just for the toning on a very common coin is outrageous.

I would go up to 175-200 on that one. Beautiful coin. Good luck getting it!

Dave, value is in the eyes of the beholder. Some are willing to pay more than others. I paid 85 bucks for a 72 Brown Box Ike that has toned all over in blues and purples in the OGP. Well more than its "value", but within MY value range of the coin. If I could ever figure out how to get a picture of it that shows the toning, I would post it.

Yeah just for kicks I was looking at completed auctions for ms64 1881 s morgans. Regular ones were going for about $65 to $70. Some of the toners were going for $300 to $800. Now that is a little ridiculous. lol. But for the one I posted I wouldn't mind paying $200 for it. Don't think i'd go any higher though.

Toning can make it look nicer, but I agree with Dave and personally I wouldn't pay that much extra for toning.

As long as you are happy with it at the price you pay for it, that is all that matters.

my max bid was $200. It sold for $201.
This always happens to me, it's so annoying. I lose by a buck every time. it seems like if I ever want to win an auction I have to pay crazy money. I probably would have had to pay $250 to win that.
