Fellow Forum Members,

I have just received the official word I am being recalled to active duty for deployment, for a 4th time!

Everything in my eCrater store must go...

Items can go one at a time or I am willing to sell all 189 currently listed items to one buyer.

PM me for specific details for bulk purchases.

Thank you for your help & support during this time of transition for my family.

Sir, you are very welcome and your support is much appreciated!

I have mentioned this before, but as I tell my soldiers, "It is an HONOR and a PRIVELAGE to serve this great nation and our fellow citizens. Make them proud!"

I 'over-nighted' more than 100 coins to Great Collections yesterday. They will be auctioned in the next 7 to 10 days. I think that leaves about 100 items in my eCrater store.

If you want it, get it while you can

The coins I sent on consignment to Great Collections are now live for bidding. If you had your eye(s) on anything in my eCrater store before now, chances are, it is most likely up for auction.

If you remember the coin, message me and I will be happy to provide you a direct link to that coin.

I have also added about 30 new items to my eCrater store. *See the store link below.

Time is getting short before I am (unofficially) off to that Central Asian 'paradise' called Afghanistan... This will be the LAST time Uncle Sam sends me to the 'sand box!'

I was in Afganistan way back in 1970. Things were very different then.

I and a few of my friends, 9 fellas 4 girls, all Australians, got together and bought an old double deck bus for ourselves. Shipped it as deck cargo to Bombay, India, and drove it to London.

The bus was our motor home for 6 months. The top deck was converted to accommodate bunks. These days whenever I hear a big diesel being started, I have a warm homely feeling about it.
It originally served on the Manly to Palm Beach route in Sydney.

We spent 3 weeks in Afganistan en route. The main road through the country was originally built joinly by the Russians and the Americans in 1944.

One of the most amazing roads I have been on is in the Kabul Gorge. The climb out of the Gorge and into Kabul took 3 days. The gorge itself is very narrow, and is an old earthquake fault, with the Kabul River, a tributory of the Indus River, flowing through it. The road rises about 5,000 feet onto the tableland above.

I will admit there are some nice land features in Afghanistan, including the gorge (which took a heck of a beating while flushing-out the bad guys.) Another nice image is of vast Poppy fields extending over the horizon to the foothills of the mountains. Ahhh, POPPIES!!!

Other an the occasional geographic feature, that is where the similarities end. You are right, it is nothing like it used to be when you were there... I will refrain from the details as to not ruin your memories.

Speaking of poppy fields, a bit further on, in the same bus trip, in Iran, we parked our double deck bus in the middle of a poppy field on top of a hill.

One of my friends took a picture of the vehicle in the distance, with a vast poppy field around it in bloom. A true piece of photographic art. He called it:
"Strawberry Fields Forever"
