Got these in trade with a fellow board member. I think I have fallen in love with 20 oz engelhard bars even if the premium is big. If these bars could tell a story I would love to hear it. If anyone ever runs across a few, shoot me a PM.

Very nice increment! I'm into the history of those bars as well. It's even hard to find a mint date.

LOL. Should have remembered the ole TBK/Silverhawk cross-country PM connection. You got me. Funny thing is, as soon as I read your message, "A Boy Named Sue" popped out of my sound system. A classic from my personal stash. Another good joke if I've ever heard one, if you're familiar with the song. Gotta love the man in black.

I've never seen one of those kinds of pours until now. I'm extremely jealous. I've been hunting for those soap bar sized, 10 oz bars in my area ever since I saw and bought one a year or so ago, but a lot newer version then the one in your pic. Plus, I've only seen the ones that have the oz markings, not that kind. Don't even know what kind of marking means. I guess I really need to do some more research on Engelhard bars. Great add to your collection. I bet that feels amazing in your hand. Wish you lived next door, so I could come over and just hold it for a few hours, hahaha.

TBK, you may notice on the bottom of the big bar, there is spot where it once had a piece of tape on the bottom, an the area where the tape was seems to have more silver luster, with a we bit of adhesive on the sides from the old tape....
I don't know for the life of me why guys put tape on these, but I had one of the smaller Academy 4.6 oz. bars which had the same minor issue....
What I did to remove it (an I did not do it to your 20 oz. bar), as I figured I would just suggest the idea to you.It hurts that raw old bar ZERO from my estimation. What I did was took some of my girl friends face wash with the exfoliation crystals which add abrasion obviously via cleaning one skin. Well guess what, put a little on a towel an add some water an rub that area for a bit, an it all will come off, doing no noticeable damage. However, the discoloration will always be there, but just adds to that bad bars personality, like the dark toning around the rim. This probably would not matter to most, but it bugs my OCD nature, the adhesive being there, just like I HATE price tags on slabbed coins, killz me....
That is what makes that bar so freakin cool, like its own finger print with that rare old serial number, it truly is a one of a kind bar....

Since Silver was on sale today about $27.50 oz at noon today , I went to local COIN SHOP to see if they had some weird/rare silver bars, I PICKED-UP A SET OF THREE 1976 OLYMPIC 999 SILVER STAMPS. THESE WERE SOLD JUST AS 1/2 OZ SILVER BARS. ON BACK THESE 3 SILVER STAMPS ARE MARKED: CANADA POST, 16 GRAMS, 999 FINE SILVER. fyi... 16 GRAMS = .51 Troy oz silver I just thought this set of (3) 1/2 OZ bars / stamps were cool looking, instead of buying just a plain 1 oz silver bar. The fancy box was not included, to save time just found a photo of same items on web.

Nice Penny, those sound way cool. The only time I consider under a 1 oz. piece, is in silver loaf or bar form. For example there is a 2/3rd an oz. sterling hand pour on ebay up to like 32 bucks, lol. They love them..... I would love to see some pics of those, love the old Olympic history in coins an never heard or seem them in bar form.....

To be honest Kevin all the little imperfections just add to the mystery of the history of the bar. Thanks for the opportunity to trade you for these as like always I think it was a mutually beneficial deal, you know?
Eupion,
I am currently in love with these old "ox head" bars. The weight of the 20 just feels great in your hand. I am currently looking for a 50 and a 100 oz old pour but like you said they are getting fewer it seems.

took me a few min. to add pic...it was too big in size to upload at first. I don't have much money to buy big bars, since GM made me retire last year... so I like to collect less than 1 oz bars of 999 silver. still looking for a 1/2 oz stamped engelhard bar!

Very nice! I keep looking for one at my local coin shop. He says he gets them in every once in awhile. With some luck I'll pick one up soon. Thanks for sharing.
