Finally bought my first 5oz bar! Its not a lot of silver to most on this forum, but it is to me Its JM and I'm not sure what year it was made in, and if that the holder is the original packaging... If you could help me with that, that would be great! Lastly... I bought this for $32 an ounce, which totalled to $160. I thought this was a decent price.

Well done CC that is a lot of nice silver to anyone I figure....

I just had a sheet of 10 of the smaller 1 oz. versions show up today, can't go wrong with those bars, J & M is one of those names collectors go after, long trusted history much to do with that I figure....

Way ahead of the rest eh....

Well done! This is classified as Variety A, per http://about.ag/JohnsonMattheySilverBars.htm, which predates the more modern looking JM design.

Any other resources on JM bars?

I saw a guy on ebay "asking" $527 for this bar. I know hes "asking" for that price and may not get it... but is this a scarce bar?

Not scarce in Canada as we have a ton of JM bars
a bit more rare south of the border

I bet its the guy with the $995 10oz bars
because some people are day dreamers.

You still got a good buy and should be able to sell that piece for $200 easily on ebay

At a $160. In my opinion, you did just fine. What is nice about JM bars of any size they will sell for a pretty good premium. Here is a link for a website that has a breakdown of all that is Jm bars - from 1 gram to 1000 oz "big boy's". Hope it helps.

Great pick up. That 5 oz JM bar is sealed and is an older "version" of their bars. It will certainly sell for higher if you ever decide to sell on ebay.
