Can anyone tell me if the missing letter "I" in Liberty on this 1966 penny is a result of heavy circulation or error.

to CCF. It looks like it took a hit to me so it would be considered PMD (post mint damage)

I agree it does appear to be from a hit. Notice the I is sort of moved to the right.

If I had to guess it got hit by a coin rolling machine...but its definitely PMD
