not in the best shape but came out better than I would have guessed. thought this was going to be a licinius but looks like it is a maximinus 2, I can just make out the "M" after "IMP" and the "VS" before the PF AVG on the obverse. kind of happy about that, didn't have any of him yet.

anyway, here is my best attempt at attribution. I need to give a shout out to jwharper for some great links, thank you sir! this is form helvitica's id help pages...

Maximinus II IMP MAXIMINVS PF AVG

Genius reverse
GENIO AV-GVSTI crescent left field? (i think)
epsilon right? (i think)
Siscia RIC VI Siscia 207c
year 311 AD

Does' that seem right to you guys? (and gals)

Thanks!

I had no idea who Genius was, so here is a small piece on him if interested...

I can't make out the mint mark. How did you come to the conclusion of Siscia? Thanks for the mention, but you would have found the resources sooner or later.

If you attribute both left and right field marks on the reverse along with a few other details, it results in that attribution.

jw, I can't see the mint mark at all either. but going through the xl spread sheet of the the genius coins, it is the only one that matches up with other details (maximinus, left crescent, right epsilon)....unless I'm missing something...which is very possible!

You are most probably correct. Did you check out the Galerius coins with this reverse?

oh wow jw, thanks...there is an exact match with galerius also! I took another look and can make barely make out..

INVS PF AVG instead of ANVS PF AVG, so it looks like it is maximinus 2 instead of galerius...but thank you for the head up, that was a very close call I wouldn't have even thought of!

I didn't check the sources, but knew Galerius was also a possibility. So then, your attribution stands and is correct. Good for you. BTW, nice cleanup on this coin. It turned out darn good as compared to the before images.
