I recently picked up this corroded coin as part of a bulk lot. It was in with the Indian Heads and at first I thought it was one...but it is something else. It is dated 1863 and is exactly the same dimensions as an Indian Head of that date. The legends aren't fully legible. Instead of "One Cent" it seems to read "GRG CER" on two lines. Or maybe "GRO CER"? Around the Indian Head it is mostly illegible but seems to include "erbach" near the face. Could this be an old trade token? Many thanks! my advice is if you don't have too much attachment or money invested in this coin, would be to give it a nice bath in acetone to get rid of some of that grime and reveal what it really says.

It was a freebie and I have no attachment. I am afraid it has already had the benefit of acetone......

It is deffinatilly a Civil war token, If it says anything even related to gorcer. Does the headdress have beads instead of the word liberty? It could be a NOT one cent.

The headdress has beads. Does Gorcer have a meaning? As I look into not one cents, I think that this is the kind of thing this is. The main legend definitely says "GR? CER" though, not "not one cent". I think it is something like this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cincinnati-...em2ebe2a2e79Thanks!!

Ah grocer....I guess gorcer was a typo. Yes I think Grocer. I am afraid I won;t be able to post a better photo for a few days. I am thinking that the legend around the Indian is the name fo the grocer in question.

From what I can read, the front reads something token, and the reverse reads GRO CER
