I asked at my local mall, where one of these has a booth:
:we buy gold; we don't sell it."

This is an odd question since I wonder just how many people even think about where it goes. What do they do with the Gold? Where is it shipped and how? Is it possible much of it is melted down and made into a shape like a Falcon. Then painted black?

I saw one of those places in the mall today. Out of curiosity I asked what they pay for silver. I was told they give $.29 per gram. She didn't know how many grams are in an ounce. I explained they were paying about 1/3 of silver spot.

aandabooks, I believe it. I have been reading stories about how little they pay for silver and gold. I would love to open up a kiosk next to them so I can help educate potential customers about the value of the precious metals they are considering selling. I hate to see people taken for a ride. Somehow, I think I would get in trouble if I did this.

I believe everything they buy just gets melted down which is why they pay so little for it. Its a solid money making model, but kind of sad when you think about the fact that most people that go there are either hard up for money or really have no clue how much they could get for what they are selling.

There are several of them near where I work. One has a sign that says "Buying and Selling..."

I have almost gone in to see what they have for sale, but I am afraid they might be "too proud" of their product.

How can you feel bad for some other these people that use these "services"? (not the ones hard up for money, that sucks they have to use it, they should consider a pawn shop instead, you'll probably get close to the same that some of these places offer, especially the one offering .29 per gram)

The ones that just go there to sell stuff I can't feel bad for them...a 30 second google search can inform them how much their stuff is worth. The stores aren't forcing them to sell their gold/silver, they make them an offer and they can either accept it or not, it's THEIR choice not the stores.

I more feel bad for the people that have to for the money then these people. But I still do feel bad for them in the sense they are either so clueless or helpless that they just go to the first flashy sign they see.

I do get the feeling though that a decent amount of stuff that ends up at these stores is stolen and I do not feel bad for the criminals, just the people that were robbed
