The '54 is obviously in better condition, the '43 is a better strike.
I agree with markn for for the '43D, but I will go the Sheldon system for the '54, which is MS62 or 3.

Both pleasing coins.

These comments are interesting because of which country I bought these coins and the grading systems differ in both countries.
1943 sixpence came from the US
ebay listing

And the 1954 sixpence came from Australia
ebay listing

Have a look at what they were graded at when listed.
I think it just goes to show that in Australia we tend to be harder on the grades than the US which IMHO is a good thing
It didn't cost me an arm and a leg for these I just wanted to compare grades.

I think that's a gross generalisation and possibly offensive. For every properly graded coin on the Australian ebay I'll show you a badly over-graded one. Over-grading has nothing to do with nationality, mostly with to do with either ignorance or greed.

Settle down old mate I have no intention of causing offence .
Both of these sellers are highly regarded
the US seller has feedback of 15281 at 100% and is a top rated seller
the Australian seller has a feedback of 1908 at 100% and is a top rated seller as well.
Both sellers posted great pictures of their coins and I was able to judge the grade by them before I bid.
I judged the 43 to be VF+ - aEF and the 54 as UNC or better.
I have bought countless Australian coins and I personally have found that the better sellers in Australia have a consistent quality as to the grading of their coins.
Most of the Australian coins I have bought from other countries have been a bit hit and miss in this aspect.
I don't know why, maybe they come across a heap of average Australian coins most of the time ( Like us ) and when they get a half good one they assume it is UNC.
I know there are a plethora of over graders with lousy pic's out there but these sellers IMHO were genuine in there ideas of the grades were to the best of their knowledge.
This is the flip the 1943 came in and wasn't in the pic's listed.

Trout, regardless of your intentions your statement was offensive. By the way, the Australian seller you hold in such high regard (and who I happen to respect a lot) sold me a $500+ coin about 18 months ago that was cleaned and he did not note this in his listing and probably didn't even notice it. No-one is perfect.

I have to ask, why on earth you wasted your money on that 43? Anyone can tell from the sellers image that it is not UNC.

I needed it for a set that I am making up for a mate of mine along with the 54 coin.
And besides it cost me less than $10 anyway.
And NO I am not charging for this set and my mate has no idea it is coming , I want it to be a pleasant suprise when I send it and want at least a few decent coins in it

I just know that this seller would have made everything good at the end of the day
