I took several shots each of 3 different 1972 LMC and when I and trying to file them in my pic docs, with the proper associations that go to the each coin, I get confused and the Name... how do I Name the files and the closeups for each coin and keep them separate? when they are all 1972 LMC?

Just put 1,2,3, after the coins, and 1a,1b,1c, 2a,2b,2c, 3a,3b,3c for the closeups. Or a, b,c, then a1,a2,a3, etc. b1, b2,b3, c1,c2,c3 for closeups.

When I have 2 different pictures of the same coin I differentiate them with a letter at the end of the title...

For instance...

$0.50 AUSTRALIA .800 SILVER OBVERSE 1966 a
$0.50 AUSTRALIA .800 SILVER REVERSE 1966 a
$0.50 AUSTRALIA .800 SILVER OBVERSE 1966 b
$0.50 AUSTRALIA .800 SILVER REVERSE 1966 b

I choose a letter over the number as to not confuse a search by date. I also start all my coin pics with $, so they group together.

I might also just have one picture but more than one coin at just bullion quality... so, if I have three pieces, I will title with x3 at the end... as such;

$0.50 AUSTRALIA .800 SILVER OBVERSE 1966 x3
$0.50 AUSTRALIA .800 SILVER REVERSE 1966 x3

Hope that makes sense!

Um, you might want to be careful using dollar signs in filenames - it's recognized as a symbol meaning it's a temporary file which some softwares will automatically delete....

I must reply to that ^^^. If you are just saving pictures to your "My Pictures" or "Pictures" in Windows XP or Windows 7, the "$" is recognized as just a symbol for the sort in "by filename" I have been doing this for over 10 years. I also use "$$" or "$$$" to diferentiate say, a text document about coins that I want to store in pictures.

BUT, this site(CCF) does not accept symbols in the filename to be uploaded. So, I use PhotoBucket instead of this site's image upload system.

There are several places where Unicode symbols are accepted, but then they won't accept them in the creation of a password... If so the possible combinations would greatly exceed the number of seconds since the universe began. Unicode are all the fancy symbols your keyboard can create with a combo of keys... I'll put in a link.

Lastly, I'm aware of the protocol whereby Temp files are designated with a "$". This is a programmer thing and simply a way to easily distinguish Temps... as I use it to easily ditinguish my coin files. I am unaware of anything that simply drops the "$" file after a period of time. Further, this Temp designation, as far as I'm aware, is as old as COBOL class, but still used as a designation by programs but not a mark of a timed deletion.

Teach me if you know different... ☮

>>>> edit>>> ☞ I left out, TEMPS are dtermined mainly by locataion and not name. ☜

Another thing to consider is how many similar images you'll have. If you may eventually have over 10,000 coin images, start with 00000, not 1. Computers tend to sort like this:

10
100
1000
1001
1002
1003
1004
1005
1006
1007
1008
1008
1009
101
1010
...
1019
102

In Sear the obverses are numbered, the reverses are lettered.

Grrr, I hate when numbers are sorted numerically, instead of sequentially.

Lots of ideas but usually the simplist is the easiest and best. Such as a 1, 2, 3. as noted above.
Even easier would be to send two of those to me. Then no sorting is necessary.
