not lucky enough to find one with fsb....however found this one in an old pcgs holder....buckets of luster. What would you grade it?

Very nice. Not FB, but a really good strike for the date. I don't see any marks of significance. Nice, subtle color too.
MS66 (maybe higher, but hard to tell from pictures)

I will guess that they gave this a MS-65 but it could go higher.

Here it is in the slab. I had 2 NGC's graded MS 67 this one seems to have more luster and eye appeal, which is what sold me....especially for $18

For $18 you did great! I rarely by slabbed coins, but for a high grade coin, purchased for less than the cost of slabbing....you can't go wrong.

I've been a little skeptical in the past that these old holders are under-graded in a systematic way relative to current standards, but this coin seems to support the notion. Then again, I have some coins in new holders that are under-graded too.

yeah it always goes back to buy the coin not the holder....the only time i'll pick up a slabbed coin is if I feel it has been undergraded thus getting it cheaper....or if its a key date......or if its just a flat out good deal haha.

I have a few slabbed coins that I think are under-graded, and a few that are probably over-graded. This 1923 is in a new-style PCGS slab at MS64FB. I have no doubt it would earn a gold CAC sticker, and if I cracked it I would would give it 50/50 odds of coming back as a 66. It was also under-priced; I got it for a little over MS63FB money. And check out that hammered strike.

Captain, that is a beautiful 23! I agree, easily a 65. I would have to see it in hand and with a loop to go any higher, but that is not a reflection on you or the coin....just the way I grade.

that is a pretty dime. There is definitely a margin of error with the TPG's....I mainly collect morgans and have seen some grossly over graded in pcgs slabs as well as under graded. Last week I looked at a 21-S I would have given an XF 45 and pcgs had it at a 62. On the flip side of that I've picked up some I've felt to be 1 or 2 points under graded. I can honestly say from my experience this holds true for pcgs, ngc, anacs and even icg.

I really like the 1945-P you posted. Any 45-P with detail definition in the center bands is a great coin IMO.
