Ok,
Now that we have the Predidential $ coins.
Question:
1- How does one know that a coin has an error?
2- What should we look-out for on these coins?
3- What area of the coin would be considered the high points?

Anyone?
Thanks.

Error wise, clashed dies is first thing that comes to mind.

Rotated Dies

ok I don't think it is a error but I know I have some of my coins were the side are written upside down. but I thought I read somewhere they were going to be like that so I don't think it ia a error but watch out for some of the ebayers that might start listing them as errors. I agree with coffeecup57 look for clashed but as far as upside down lettering I ma not sure I think the mint did it both way that way they had less of a chance to mess up

Edge lettering will be on either side up, except on proofs, which will be all up towards portrait.

Yep, we had another post like this a while back, where someone indicated that there would be quite a few different varieties to collect to complete the set. P mint with lettering up and down, D mint with lettering up and down, Proofs.....

Made a few a little angry at having that much variation available. Of course it also increases the cost that you need to put forward as well if you're inclined to do so....

Mila, there are many types of errors, some very common and some not so. All will carry a premium although most the premium will be very small.

I believe you are talking about minor error, because if it;s a major one you will know it right away.

Minor Errors to look for with very small premiums: Die crack, small Cuds, small die fill, die over polishing,

Errors to look for with medium premiums: Very Large die cracks, Large Cuds, Large die fills, die gouges

Major errors you might find: Off metal (quarter), Die trail, Rotated die, Clip,

I don't think we will see may major errors like off centers or double strikes, because of the mint clampdown. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm sure I missed plenty but its a start for you.

I have found some of these in the roll. I also found what I think is a ' Cud' or a partical filled 's'.

the last 'S' in States

I've also noticed what appears to be doubling in the lettering of the words mostly on the 'top' of each letter. Or this what the mint intended to do for a '3D' effect?

Mila, you found an error coin already, just awesome, great searching.

Even though this is an error it falls into the minor catagory. Some call it a Cud or die chip.

You could sell it now on ebay and make a few dollars or wait and it will be worth less next year (sell into the hype)
