Recently I acquired the 1936 Edward VIII 10c and 5c coins from British East Africa.

From my books I find that the following Edward VIII coins were also circulated:

1936 New Guinea 1d (copper)
1936 British West Africa 1d, 1/2d, 1/10d (Nickel)

As no Edward VIII coins were officially circulated in the UK I have decided to collect this mini series to stand in for "what might have been". UK trial pieces and the few 3d nickel-brass coins which unofficially escaped are way beyond my means. ( The 3d coin lists around £20,000+).

Does anyone know of any other Edward VIII coins which were circulated, or is this the lot? I am not interested in fantasy pieces, only real coins that were actually intended for use.

Once I get the full set I will post pictures for all to enjoy.
Thanks in advance.

I have just found that Fiji also did a 1936 nickel 1d. Any more?

I have a complete set of Edward V111 coins by type, in uncirculated, that were officially issued for circulation:

British West Africa cupronickel 1/10 Penny
British West Africa cupronickel 1/2 Penny
British West Africa cuprinickel One Penny
East Africa bronze 5 Cents
East Africa bronze 10 Cents
Fiji cupronickel Penny
Territory of New Guinea bronze One Penny.

All seven of the above have a central hole.
Also included in my set is the silver 5 kori of Kutch (India), struck in the name of Edward V111. A silver 2 1/2 Kori was also issued, but I am still looking for that one.
All of these coins are relatively easy to obtain, and are not rare.

Actually, a complete official pattern set of coins in all three metals of Edward V111 was struck by The Royal Mint. They are excessively rare; being patterns only, they were never intended for issue into circulation.

There a number of privately issued crowns in all metals, but they are too numerous for me to keep up with. My reply is to have one representative coin only for these series.
Lobel's in London has a range of these for sale most of the time. Not my cup of tea.

I think you'll find Kutch had a 1-kori also.
Short as E8's reign was, it traversed a new year in whatever calendar Kutch used, and so the full set would include three denominations, each in two dates.
The early pages of Krause explain it pretty well.

I just remembered, the African coins have mintmark varieties as well: KN, H, and no mintmark.

I know of the various mint mark varieties. That is why said I had a type set.
There a quite a few more coins are involved, if all of the mint mark varieties are included. Such a full set would be much harder to assemble.

Edward-VIII-Coins---Listings-Question

This is my example

The Persian inscription reads: Edward 8 Qaiser-i-Hind zarb Bhuj 1936
The Devnagari legend is as follows: Maharajah Dhiraj Mirjan Maharao Shri Khengarji Sawai Bahadur, within inner circle: Kori Panch / Kutch Bhuj / 1992
