Do banks mind if you get rolls of coins from them if you don't have an account with them?

I called one bank yesterday and that was the first question they ask. When I said no there was kind-of a dull sigh, whatever that means. I think the mint is so desperate to get a dollar coin accepted into circulation that it shouldn't be hard to find them anywhere. I just talked to my bank and they said come get them tomorrow am. I'm going to get them first thing just in case.

Its totally up to each bank and sometimes each teller.

depends on what type of coin you are wanting. if it is the new dollar coins most likely they will not let people who dont have account get them. The bank I work for wants to make sure we let our customers get what they want first so we have enough for our customers, if there is enough left over after that then we may let non customers buy them. But each bank is different, so they may do things different.

One of the local bank tellers was actually bragging about the presidents' dollars a couple of days ago when in getting half dollars. Stated they would have them on the 1st day. Now, that is my type of bank. Jim

Most banks around here,Western N.Y., require that you have an account with them. That being said alot of banks, HSBC for one will let you open a checking account for as little as $5.00, with no fees, if you use the account occasionally. I have three such accounts and leave enough in each to "with draw" certain amounts in rolled coins ie $10.00 for a roll of quarters.

i have run into problems a few times when I wanted to get rolls from banks I wasnt with, but I think the tellers just wanted to say no at the time. however if you are doing what remotely seems to be a normal business transaction, they usually dont care.

Not in Mooresville, NC. You are asked for a bank account number and if you don't have one they send you out the door. Lousy system here in NC

Around the Chicago area there are banks at almost every place you go. They even have small branch ones of the bigger ones in some supermakets. What I've done over the years is to open some kind of an account at ten different banks. Savings, checking, safe deposites, etc. Then make sure I go to them as amuch as possible so they get to know me. Then when I ask for any coins I usually get what ever I ask for no problems at all. I've enven had one teller at one bank watch out for odd looking coins for me. I occationally get a $50 bag of Cents from one place, look though them, take them back to a different bank and start the process all over again. I've heard many people tell me that a certain bank has no half dollars and when I go there I get all the rolls of them I want. It pays to be noticed, be friendly, say good morning or afternoon, etc. Nothing to loose and everything to gain. If I was younger I think I'd date bank tellers only.

Just how old are you, Carl? Anyways, where I work it depends on how many rolls you want and how often you come in. If someone comes in once in a while with a ten and wants a roll of quarters we probably wouldn't think anything of it. If it started happening every day we might question it. And if someone wants a lot of rolls we usually ask them to let us know in advance so we can order them. We only keep enough coin on hand for what we'd need in a normal week. But Carl has the right idea, make sure the tellers know you, and be nice. Don't take a bunch of rolls out, then search them and bring them right back to the same bank. That gets annoying real fast, especially since we have to unroll and count any rolled coin that comes in. Bribes help too, chocolate is always welcome... Rachel

I walked into a Wachovia bank today, first time I was ever in it and got a roll of the Prezies for 25.00. I bank with Commerce Bank, but there is a Wachovia around the corner from my college so it was faster.

Just lucky I guess, but I walked into a bank in Grand Junction, Colorado, last Thursday and asked if I could buy a roll of Presidential dollars. The teller smiled and asked "Do you have $25?" Then, she added, "Would you like a roll of the new Montana quarters also?" Then, today, I went into my bank at home (Delta, Colorado) and the teller simply asked me how many rolls I wanted. He also pointed out that they had the new quarters if I was interested. Before the dollars were issued I predicted that getting them would be easy. Although a couple local banks didn't have them, and my credit union let me down, the fact is I could get hundreds of them, at face value, if I wanted to.

In Australia, you generally have to be a bank customer. I have a couple of different master/visa cards and my home loan account is with third bank. I have no problems in getting up to $500 in $1 rolls, or (say) $50 in other denominations. I NEVER take them back to the same bank to cash them in. The advice to be polite is spot on. I have a couple of tellers who keep an eye out for all sorts of coins.

Just got back from one of the banks I go to and I was just going to my safe deposit box when one of the tellers stopped me and said they just got a bunch of half dollars in if I was interested just let them know. Now see that is what I mean by making sure your noticed. Just pays to be nice to everyone. I've even got the guy who sweeps up bars in the neighborhood looking on the floors for coins for me.
