With a bit of luck my passion has sparked interest in these notes. All I can say for these notes is:
I've been looking at the 2008 $10 first & last, because I guy wanted to buy one from me. To me:
Number 1) it's one of the lowest (4th lowest out of 10) $10 print runs.
Number 2) There were only 654,499 of each the first & last prefixes printed.
As for the 2008 $5 print.
Number 1) Only 442,999 of the last prefix printed.
Number 2) Maybe because it's a more collectable price point.
I figure that people collect what they can afford, rather than what they're willing to spend. Like, for instance, the majority of us are prepared to spend quite a bit on our collecting addictions.
When I've got cash flow going well, I've got money to spend. When I don't I have to sell to spend, but I will still spend.
As for others that may just collect type notes e.g all $5, all $10 etc. It's a lot more affordable to start a $5 collection from scratch & with the economic trends, perhaps this is playing a part on how people are investing...rather than bricks & mortar in silver &/or gold.
I guess the biggest thing as far as polymers that I go out & source are the scarcest notes. e.g $50 JC98 where only 39,999 were printed & you can only wonder how many still exist.
A $50 DA96 just sold on
ebay for $135.83
Condition stated as VF. When you don't know much about notes you can sell it for whatever grade that someone believes it might be worth. This person's listed that McDonald values it at $680+ in the current book...I can't see that, all I see is $350 for VF or $150 for F which is more likely the grade that it is. Below is the only picture that was with the listing, mind you listed via
ebay mobile!

The link for that item is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...p=true&rt=ncI'm not looking to put down this guys item...but some people seem to get too narrow minded & don't tend to trust anyone in the industry we collect in, probably for the right reasons, but when you're buying fake errors & date-altered coins at top dollar...then the $ is worth more than the $.
That could be what's calling the shots?
It could be the 2008 $50 MD08 which is calling the shots with an extremely small print of only 49,999. They're already selling for stupid prices on
ebay, but for the scarcity, you could only expect people to want it more. Below are two that are ending in the next 20 odd minutes so have a look.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Australia-R...em27c73d89a7As for the note dealer quality_notes; I wouldn't deal with him again. I brought two JC98's from him, one which was apparently strict UNC & the other vUNC (virtually UNC) for a decent dollar $3,950 (I was prepared for book price). I got them & the UNC had an indent (which to me makes it aUNC (because vUNC doesn't exist) & the other had a couple detracting points which would have put it in a high EF, probably a gEF. So to me they were only worth $2,050. I ended up getting a refund...eventually & two weeks later I guy I knew sold me two perfect UNC JC98's for $4,000. Moral of the story, some sharks will try & rip you off if you don't know your grades, so look under every light!!

As for the jump, I think everyone's starting to finally get into the polymer's after initially hating them. I love 'em! Polymers make me go
