I have a brand new Dansco 7070, but I haven't placed any of my coins in it yet as I am still debating whether to crack some of them out of slabs to place in the album. I only lack four coins now (not counting gold) - a reeded edge Bust half, a Liberty Seated Half with arrows , and both Liberty Seated dollars. One other thing is bothering me and that is if this is really a "United States Type Set" why were some types left out of the album? There are no issues from the 18th century. Draped Bust coppers are included, but no Draped Bust silver issues. In addition some issue's varieties are included and some aren't - for instance in the Seated Liberty series there are three varieies included in the album, but in reality there are actually five varieties. Another example would be the silver Three Cent piece where any one of the three varieies can go in the one hole. I mean I can see leaving out an 1804 Dollar or a Gobrecht dollar - those holes would never be filled by an average collector, but why leave out a major series like the Draped Bust silvers, or why not include all three distinct types of the Three Cent Silver? Doesn't seem like it is really a type set at all. Yes, I know about now you are thinking this guy has way too much time on his hands. Maybe I am just trying to talk myself into selling this album. Anyone interested? It has the archival slipcase.

Colin I know what you mean I am currently adding to my 7070 As there are at least 18 Varieties of Lincolns Alone the type set is incomplete, some I may not be able to own, But I will have fun trying

I wish they would have left out the 4 holes they used for commem Halves of any date and included a few of the other coinage also but I guess they just figured the coins they included would be the easiest ones to fill for the least amount of money (I really don't know just trying to place some logic behind it)

I with ya on the confusion!

I ended up scrapping my Whitman & Dansco type albums and switched to a Dansco coin stock album. I put the coins in kointain holders and simply slide them in the pages. This allows me to grow the type set as I feel is right (or have more money ).

What really kick started me on this was when my 8 year old wanted to start a type set and he asked why different type albums/folders had different coins.

So we ended up defining our own lists, switching to dansco coin stock albums, and decided to share the lists on http://typesets.wikidot.com/ . The site is only 1 ½ months old and is lacking a little content but time for me is tough with work, school, & family. But, as soon as I graduate school this May I plan on working with my son to add photos and all kinds of stuff.

Regards,
Ken

Thanks for sharing your site. I would be interested in spreadsheet for 20th century U.K. types.

I don't share your consternation over the types and varieties that Dansco decided to include and exclude.
But I applaud you for doing your own thing--one shouldn't let someone else tell him what to collect.

It's not that I don't like the albums I think a better statement is I outgrew them as my coinage taste expanded.

tights24 thanks for compliment!

texasmick, thanks for the input. Your the first to actually ask for content (most cool). I'll add your request to my to-do list.

Great site Ken. Great idea for letting a numasmatist choose a type set that matches their budget and interests. Sort of a name your own poison. I have book marked it in my favorites. I have always wanted to accumulate a nice older type set. The chices for types in the Dansco album felt kind of confining to me, as well as incomplete. Also now that I am close to completing it - I feel kind of let down. I even sold a 1805 Draped Bust quarter that I had because I didn't need it for the album. Also there is the issue of paying a premium for some of my coins in slabs and having to break them out to put them in the album, as well as splitting some of my modern proof sets. Just didn't seem wise from a value standpoint,

One reader has already expressed interest in buying this competely new, unused album and archival slip cover. If I don't hear from him by tomorrow, I will list it on the items for sale topic. I have enjoyed all the conversation.
