We don't post that many Byzantine coins on this forum and a while back, and it may have been dougsmit, forgive if it wasn't, that posted an Anonymous Byzantine coin(s). I made mention that I would love to start collecting Byzantine coins and didn't know much about the Anonymous, let alone any type .
My brother who follows this forum quite closely , came over Saturday to celebrate my 60th birthday with me, along with a lot my family. It was a great sun shiny day in the Pacific Northwest and we all had a great time from me on down to my young niece and grandson.
But my brother, seeing the thread on the Byzantine Anonymous coins remembered and bought me one for my birthday. Awesome start to collecting Byzantines! Thanks Brother!

I thought I would share it with you all:

According to the attribution it is a Romanus III, Anonymous Class B AE Follis 1028-1034 AD.
Obv: Nimbate bust of Christ front, holding Book of Gospels.

Rev: IS XS / bAS ILE / bAS ILE in three lines divided by cross potent on three sides. He told me what that meant, but I can't remember at the moment. (It's Greek to me ) Getting old is a drag!

Thoughts?

jessvc1: Don't be hard on your coin. Any facing bust Christ portrait coin with eyes, nose and mouth not worn away is a keeper!

Happy birthday oxos - btw, both of your coins are better than my Romanus III example.

Thank you all! I'm really happy with the first Byzantine. Of course, I didn't pick it out my brother did, so good on him for me! Hope all had a great Memorial Day!
