Check out the bidding on my 1921 Morgan dollar auction, the one which Bobby so graciously linked at the top of each page. There have been 23 bids, 20 of them from the same bidder. I know this person (from the forums, that is) - he's a legitimate VAM collector and I have no doubt he wants the coin and is willing to pay the price for it. But, at this point he looks like nothing more than my hired shill. He's not, of course. This coin is easily the finer of only two known of the type, and I fully expected it to easily reach the range the bidding is at. No shill was needed. At this point, though, I'm ready to end the auction early and restart it with this guy blocked. I do not need to be accused of employing a shill, and if I were the current high bidder, that's what would be on my mind. What do you think? |

The bidding shows 5 dollar increments ,, I can see how it looks ,but I think it is just a poor bidding technique ,, there are those who will bid once at a level which is honest with the coins value,, and then there are those who want to feel for the deal !!

You're overreacting. You could look at just about any of our auctions and think we have shill bidders. Fact is, 75% of our buyers come back for more.
Relax, don't worry, just let it go. You're not doing anything wrong here.

It's not the only one of my auctions he's bidding that way. I know him to be an early bidder, but the motivation for this is beyond me. He's caused one coin to take 20 bids to reach $23, and another to take 27 bids to reach $30. I could see feeling your way up to a coin which will be moon money for an MS63 1921-P, bit the other stuff is just petty. |

Dave, I actually think this will benefit you in the long run. The more bids an item has, the more it will attract. I don't think it looks like shill bidding at all, so don't worry about that. I would just let it run.
His bidding may appear this way if he placed a proxy bid and other people bid up his proxy in these small increments. That's what it looks like to me anyway.

I too get a fair amount of repeat custom. You yourself have said in the past you like to get a deal. As do most of the people bidding on my stuff. So I have $30 items closing with 20 bids by 2 or three people. No one has screamed Shill yet. Me thinks Bobby has it right. 'You're overreacting'
Example tell me that some one looking at this could not read Shill into it. Yet they are all legit bids and the same people bid on most of my Auctions in small increments.

Dave, I wouldn't worry about it if its only one coin he's bidding on.Just looks like he wants it to me.  On the other hand, I have one bidder who holds the bids on eight of the twelve coins I have listed and he refuses to be outbid.He has purchased two coins from me in the past but it sure dosen't look good when he's holding all the bids.  |

That guy could make you alot of money, thats the way I see it. I however respect the fact that you worry about integrity and honor and I respect that even if I can spell it. LOL

Years ago I use to play on ebay. I'd do silly things to see how the auction reacts. On one occasion when a valuable coin was started very low, I put in over one hundred bids, beating myself with each bid. I still lost the auction because a few bidders went higher. But I had fun, playing on ebay and it cost me nothing and no harm was done. |

A bidder with a 5 year history, 500+ feedback and 100% positive replies certainly would not be you average shill. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

Dave you think you had problems I have 24 auctions running and the same person is high bidder on all 24 of them tell me this does not look like shill bidding

Well, Richard, it makes it easier to keep track of payments and shipping, especially if s/he pays by PayPal. One winner, one payment, one shipment. |

It is very common on ebay for a bidder to bid on all of a seller's items - especially if they are all similar items. |
