Quote:The Director of the Mint is replaced with each new US President, so he knew he was going to be replaced. He left early, since he got a new job some where else. And this new director is doing a poor job. That's why the prices of the ATB Quarters took a huge jump in price last year. He is very greedy and looking at ways to make a big jump in profits for the Mint. That's why we see the new business strike quarters from SF. Not quite, if he was going to be replaced by an incoming president, he would have voluntarily resigned in January 2009 before this incoming president took office. As it was, Moy stayed for nearly two full years after Obama took office, resigning on 1-5-11. Who is the new director? if you are referring to Mr. Peterson, he was acting director for part of the time in 2011, on COAs for 2012 products, he's reverted back to his old title of deputy director. While he may have the day-to-day responsibilities of the director, he certainly doesn't have the title nor the renumeration that goes with it. So he might be responsible for the product release date gaffes and/or the pricing of upcoming Mint products, but it seems more of a marketing issue than something that would overtly concern the deputy director.

I received my El Yunque pond skipper yesterday and it is another 70, absolutely perfect. The relief on the reverse is very nicely done, it appears deeper that in really is through careful design that provides an enhanced 3D effect.

basebal, dont get me started on those crooks. Their handling of my Yosemite puck was the last straw for me. They lost my business forever. I got a lot of pleasure out of clicking the cancel auto renew fo my "membership".
As for the they will never be worth more than bullion...whatever. That is the attitude of the people who believe anything made with silver after 64 or 70 for the Kennedys is not a real coin. Pffffttttt.
We got the first five, but have not had the money to get the rest and still get the other stuff we collect. We will get the rest when we can though.

Smoke they were especially tough with the pucks for sure. I sent mine in late so they may have already had the 70 populations they wanted for those coins but I was surprised not to get a single one. I did send them in the cheapest way, and I had another batch go in the regular service and did get a 70 out of that. Theyre very stingy with 70s as is but I think that have an unwritten rule if you send it in the 10 dollar modern way they wont give you a 70.
I agree the P versions will be worth more than bullion but who knows how long theyll last

It just comes down to if you like 'em, collect 'em, otherwise you're free to ignore them like 99% of collectors do. I don't really see the point of getting the collector coin graded as they're sold individually encapsulated and likely to stay that way in their OGP for years, and most of them are 69s/70s anyway if left untouched in the OGP. The plaques just make them that much larger and harder to store, IMO. But, to each his own.

That is one amazing close up! But normally the President of the USA does replace the Mint director. I guess Obama didn't care. And this says Peterson is still Deputy Director and has been since January 25, 2011: http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_min...ctors_officeIs the Deputy Director the same as Director though?

Yes the El Junque puts you right in the jungle. Very nice. You guys got me into the ATB series. I had to get Glacier Park ATB for the mountain scene. It lets me relive all the trails I have hiked across the West and the sheer drops. The price did not bother me. There are so many Canadian, Chinese, Mexican, etc Silver Proofs I want. But most of them want over $100 per oz. There is a 2 oz Mexico Centenario Proof triangular shaped commemorative that is over $250. I have been drooling over that so long. The heck with it, I am now going to buy it. It is Father's Day! Besides when we go bail out Europe and Europe prints more money and we print more money with QE3, Whew got wound up there. Well anyway, silver will be going up so buy it while it is cheap. I love those 10 oz silver Chinese Dragon bars at A***X!

I don't mean to revive old threads, the " ATB 5oz" comes up in search. But really? Puerto Rico? I guess we're counting territories, although I'm sure I'll hear more about 'statehood' another time. I've seen the list, just wondering if the Phillipines would have worked before we shut it down. Idk, If alot of people think along these lines, they may be one of the rarest of all the 5oz ATB's. going forward. I like the Jungle thing though. Tried to order from mint on 6/25 trying to get in a first strike until I was told about their quarterly inventory delays on shipping. After the 30th, I cancelled.

Elmo just an fyi when you order has nothing to do with a first strike or not you can get those at any time and theyre all mixed together in the depot. The FS and ER slab labels also mean nothing just so you know.
Also Welcome

Ty Basebal21. I still don't see a 'quote' tab to copy what you said. I'm still newb I was thinking the PCGS requires a postmark within 30 days of release for FS? I also thought the FS designation may be beneficial in appraisal.
I could have this backwards. Still learning, and alot of info in these forums is helping IMMENSELY

Elmo theres no quote button a know of that isn't in the reply to this thread way.
PCGS does require the shipping in 30 days and you are right at the moment those coins generally do get a little higher price. Personally I feel that will fade in time and already is starting too as more and more people realize it has nothing to do with the coin quality.
I actually really like the idea of FS if the mint would keep the first strikes of a series designated as such and separate, but until the mint gets on board with the idea its meaningless.
The biggest thing for value will just be whatever it grades. I would add if you are trying to get a perfect 70 coins it is cheaper to just buy them then having to send in multiples yourself in hopes of hitting one
