Still no change in price.
$65 over spot.
I bet if silver got back over $40, these coins would be repriced higher over night.
Interesting tactic.
The Mint's site isisn't even lagging at all, so my guess is not many buyers. Edited by Namachieli 05/29/2012 4:20 pm

A lot of people are probably waiting. They may have just decided 205 is their price floor on these items which is a shame. If they are going to adjust it up they should do it down as well. Really it should be about 180-190 max.

They are thinking they want more money than what the current price of silver is asking for!

These are, in the Mint's opinion, "collector" coins, so naturally they will assess a premium over spot when these are offered for sale. The bullion equivalents are the better buy right now as they are between $150-$155, though if silver starts to trend above $33-$34 or so, these will start selling @ $205, as they will be suspended @ $35, and maybe repriced higher. With the situation in Europe affecting PMs, the $55 spread of the collector is too much to justify, and the very slow pace of sales on the 2011-P coins is a signal that most collectors are waiting for higher silver prices.

Being just "novelty coins" these hockey pucks will never be worth more than spot. I'd rather have a 5oz APMEX bar than a 3 inch diameter quarter.

The p versions of the coin have never sold for spot or resold for spot. They were in fact very popular at first and the mints own poor planning and the silver spikes seemed to be its undoing for the time being. Perfect ones still carry their premiums as well.

baseball21: you hit the nail on the head, the Mint's poor planning of the 5oz. series. PM buyers consider ALL the released coins to be bullion, pure and simple, so the current $55+ markup/spread on the collector coin is absurd to them on what is a fancy tarted up product. It's the red-headed orphan stepchild of the US mint currently, collectors are confused by the price disparity between the two finishes or even why there has to be two kinds of coin per design. Coupled with the crazy mint scheduling of the last year, and non-existent information on upcoming releases, you have a mishandling of the series, while the minted coins are fantastic, someone could get their Ph'd in marketing or economics discussing the planning and strategic marketing errors dating all the way back to the middle of 2010. The problems with producing and striking this coin is the reason why Ed Moy quit the director's post last year.

Bizy it really is a shame and a joke how the mint handled it. My cat could have told them that releasing 10 of them in a single year when silver is at its highest point in 30 years is a terrible idea. Then throw in a 25th ASE set and just miserable timing and spacing out of the coin releases while telling the public literally nothing until less than a week before the first coin is released, yea great strategy. I do think the bullion version of the coin is hurting the series as well. Now that bullion is trending down the price difference does seem big, and I think the mint wants to keep the P version as a 200 dolllar coin or keep some minimum high floor on it. I dont think any of us believe we will see this coin priced at 50 bucks if silver hits 5 dollars an ounce yet we would see the bullion one there. Once PMs steady out if we can get through the disaster known as the Euro and solve our own spending issues I could see this as one of those coins that becomes popular. Its one thing to buy a 60 dollar ASE knowing it could be sold for 35 or 40 in the future, its not fun but 20 bucks not a huge deal. Its another entirely to buy a 275 or 205 coin and wonder if itll one day being going for less than half that. Not to mention doing that 5 times a year. I do hope they get it together and someone has the common sense to release what the lowest theyll let the proofs go for no matter what and how they will be releasing them in the future ect. How hard is it to say we have 5 releases every year, well do 1 every other month starting in May or something like that. Or if theyre really looking for a boost for the coins how about changing the schedule and release some more popular states with great designs first get everyone hooked then drop the territories on us ect.

I've said it before...I'm torn on this series. I have the first 10, but like basebal21 and Bizybackson (and many others) have said, the 10 in 10 months blast plus the 25th ASE was murder on the ol' wallet. I'm hesitant to make the leap to get #11 at current spot. I know I'm buying for my collection and probably would never sell, so price is somewhat moot. Somewhat. "Overpaying" lessens my buying power so it is a factor. I really like the designs and think the 3-inch version showcases them beautifully. I guess I'll think about this one a bit. Problem is, I (and anyone else who waits) risk falling behind and having to make a bunch of hefty purchases to get current. We still have the ASE set, silver proof set, and ASE UNC this year too. Not to mention bullion and other non-silver purchases. Now where did my money tree get off to?

CelticKnot, as I mentioned on another thread, June will be an expensive month, this coin, the silver proof set, the special SF set, and later in the summer, more pucks and the unc. ASEs. I looked over when I bought each of the first ten releases, and I only bought two on the first day; Hot Springs and Yellowstone. The rest varied between 3 and 46 days after release. I bought them in pairs, and spread them out to ease the pain on my wallet. I am waiting to see how the European crisis is going to affect PMs later in June. Might affect the pricing somewhat, but Ag has got to get under $25/oz. and stay there awhile before the mint will reprice the silver products. We'll see.

I went ahead and picked up the new pond skipper from the mint and can report that they are no longer shipping single 5oz coins via UPS. For the first time, the coin is on the FedEx/USPS slow boat, which will take about one week to reach me in Central Texas. The last one came via UPS 2nd day air, and all previous shipments (including the individual 25th anniversary sets) were sent UPS next day air. PBGS is definitely cutting shipping costs to increase profits.

No free upgrades on singles anymore, eh? As if they're not making enough money on these products as it is. Sheesh.

I would like to retract my previous statements about the mint not possibly being able to handle this series any worse than they have. They have indeed found a way to upset people even more who are thinking of buying them. If only they could find the extra 2 dollars priority mail would cost somewhere in their $70 premium on the coin........

It used to be that your order received a free upgrade if it contained PMs or was more than $300. Since I always have everything sent to a PO Box it was never really appreciably faster than the FedEx/USPS slow boat combo, except during those few weeks in February and March when every order was expedited apparently. Guess the good old days of free upgrades are over. Thanks a lot, PBGS.

Mint ground shipping has to be the slowest service on earth. Either 1 of two things happens to take that long. Either they literally make your coin start to finish when you order it, or someone personally walks it from the mint to your house the entire way. Theres just no other reason it should take the 6-8 weeks it does

Can't argue with that. My DOF set was sent on 5-18, I got it yesterday. Indianapolis is a mere 1,000 miles away. Priority mail would take two days tops.
