I was looking at the Francklin Mint's site, and found this stunning coin. The amount of detail is unbelievable, I would buy this coin over any other 1kilo on the market if I had the free cash.

I believe this was actually struck by Mexico and is a NIFC issue.

It was, the Franklin Mint does not strike coins anymore. I'm not sure if they actually manufacture anything anymore. I believe the are now just a marketing facility.

APMEX has them for half the price. I wish they would state how big they are in inches.

Interesting to know AMPEX sells it much cheaper...still too much for me :P. I dont know if I would ever pay so much over spot price...unless I was just rich beyond the need to care for money. I wish they made these KILO or 1 pound, 5 pound coins much closer to spot price

There is a reason they don't. They are much more costly to manufacture. The presses needed are a LOT more expensive. The dies needed are a LOT more expensive. The dies do not last near as long. They typically take more strikes to bring un and often have to be annealed between strikes so each one takes a LOT longer to make, and all thos cost have to be spread out among a much smaller number of units sold. That means prices have to be higher to recoup costs.
