Ok, I have a lamp that sets next to my crhing chair but it faces up. That is my only constant light source. I'm trying to decide what to purchase. I've been looking at flexible arm lamps. Their are floor lamps, desk/table mounting lamps, and table top lamps. Some have magnifiers. Some are LED. I'm looking for general and specific advice on what I should get. I'm trying to avoid the same bad decisions on lights that I made on loupes. I own half a dozen coin loupes that will probably never be used again.

How good are your eyes? If you wanted you could get a large magnifying glass with a light. This would make it easier for you. Personally I just use a desk lamp with a flexible arm. This way the base can be to the side but the light directly above your hands giving more direct light but not getting in the way.

My eyes are decent to good. But one of my primary objectives with the new light is to be "hands free". If I handled a light/magnifier for CRHing, it would at least triple the amount of time it takes to process coin. Now, while I'm doing my initial processing, I set aside everything that needs to be magnified. I'm talking about a consistant light source and the possibility of having hands free magnification close buy if I want to take a quick look at a toned coin for a WAM or CAM or something similar.

I have been thinking of getting one of these two stereo microscopes. Both run around $250 but I'm wondering if the quality of the pictures and ease of use will be greater compared to a hand held USB microscope. I have a 5MP mini microscope now but I'm not particularly happy with the qualtiy of the pictures it takes. Not to mention it is not the easiest or fastest way to get a good close view of the coin.

Has anyone else been looking at anything similar to use for viewing coins?

Hi Owassokie - for CRH I use a desk mount goose-neck lamp made by Danolite that I bought from Sears that takes a 60W incandescent bulb and has a 3x magnifier. I believe higher power lenses can also be bought for it. Mine has a metal base, unlike the plastic one shown here. I've cracked those plastic ones before just through continual angle adjustments.

Thanks for the suggestion LaureateBust. I'm leaning towards a swinging arm lamp...just can't decide if I want a floor stand, table stand, or mountable. I may look and see if I can find one that offers the ability to clip on a table or set on a table. Surely they make one with that option?!?!

Do you know what magnification the lamp you posted has...or the one that you use yourself? Thank you for any info.
