I found this 1987D silver colored penny. It weighs 2.50gr. Could this one been dipped in acid?Just wondering, since it has the right weight for a zink penny.I always heard if dipped in acid, the coin will weigh less.
for futur references, are there telltale signes on a acid dipped coin?I do have a few more coins that are very discolored.Including a few dimes that looks like copper. But have a few tiny silver colored spots.I haven't posted any of those yet.
Yes there is, any LMC from 1983 and on including some 82's are made of zinc and then plated. when dipped in acid the plating is removed leaving a "dull" orange peal potmarked silver looking coin. A true silver coloured errored planchet would still be shiny with no orange peal pot marks. As for the dimes feel free to start a new thread and post some pics everyone is here to help and learn. Coop will be around at some point and will post one of his sweet examples!
