I have what may be a 1992 D CAM LMC, but the last number of the date is barely readable due to a Grease Filled Die. I can make out what looks like the top of the two, but I cannot be positive. Is there anything that I could use on the coin that would help in this process? Sorry, I'm unable to post pics at this time. Freeman Edited by freeman 06/04/2012 08:25 am

I wouldn't try to mess with the coin. Maybe post some pictures?

A photo might bring out hidden details.

I'll try to get some pics with my phone in the morning, that's the best I'm gonna be able to do as far as pics. The digital microscope that I was using will not work any more due to my computer crashing about two weeks ago; I can't find the correct driver or software for it now because it does not even have a brand name on it. I'll give the pics my best shot though.

Quote: That might be a 8? I thought of that and have attempted to compare it to a 1998 and the 1992. I'm guessing it is an 8, because that's my luck right now. I'll make sure to get pics up in the morning although they may not be of the best quality.

You may be correct about it being a 98. It's either that or a 99.

On images two and three the number 4 definitelt jumps out at me. Could be the lighting or angle but I definitely see the top two thirds of the number 4. Recently I bought a large cent and the last digit of the date was impossible to distinguish even in a well lit room. On the second day that I owned it I took it out of my pocket at a bar to show one of my cousins and the lighting in the bar (dimmer) made it easy to see that the last digit was a seven. Amazing what bright light can show and conversely what you can see when the glare of bright lights is taken away. additionally If I held the coin and viewed it from an angle rather than directly I could see the date even better.

I'm gonna go with the 1998 because it shows some of the curve to the east of the 8. Thanks everyone for the opinions.
