I got a bug to do an entire satin finish coin collection, as I have always enjoyed the look of these coins over the years...so, I bought unopened uncirculated mint sets from 2005-2010, and started the task...put each coin in 2x2 flips.
Now done, they are in little coin wallet albums, which were inexpensive, and work pretty well.
Total count I get is 162 Satin Finish Coins placed in 11 albums.
I've decided to finish out the
State Quarters, from Mint sets dated 1999-2004, then I'll have that complete uncirculated set to boot.
I bought unopened Mint Sets so as to stay away from sets being dumped with coins with excessive contact/bag marks, which can be common on these, no matter how hard the mint shoots for quality control....the bulk of the coins I got are typical high grades, in superb MS68 condition, with the usual handful of coins with crappy rims(State 25c), and minor cuts/scuffs, and, a handful that are pretty much flawless, which, after seeing prices for MS69 & 70, might be tempted to send out for grading in the future. Denver Coins tend to show more issues than Philly, except on a few coins, where Denver made a nicer strike. The only "error"(technically, damaged) I found was a P- Mint California
State Quarter, with the largest
Strike Doubling I have encountered on a modern coin, with the shift being over 1/16th inch on virtually every area of the coin, and while might have a small premium for it's unusual state, it's just a fun conversation piece.
