Okay, so I know this is going to be a tough question to answer without pictures of the coins themselves, but I don't have anything to get images at this time so hopefully they won't be essential. I'll try to explain how they look as best as I can.

Anyways, I was wanting opinions on what people would expect to pay for a couple of coins I bought about a year or so ago. I'm pretty sure I got a really good deal, but was wondering what others would think, either way I'm happy with my purchase.

The first coin is an Anacs graded Au50 details 1854 Seated half dime. The details grade was from cleaning, and it also says clashed dies, which show very well on the obverse of the coin. The cleaning in my opinion looks like someone dipped the coin or something in this manner as I see no hairline scratches even under a loupe. The coin is also really white with no toning which backs up the dipped idea.

The second coin is an Anacs graded Ef 40 details 1897 Barber quarter which is very slightly corroded on the obverse. This coin also has no toning and is white with very hard to see pitting in some places. This coin will be tough without pictures, I know.

I was just wondering what people think they would expect to pay for coins like this with problems. After a few comments I'll say what I paid and see if it was a good deal.

Thanks to everyone who comments, I have just been wondering about this for a long time.

Rather than others looking this up, why not just check out the Numismedia web site. Or the PCGS web site. Or you could check out other on line dealers to see what they would sell one for. ebay is possibly the best place for price checking.
The main thing is as long as your happy with what you paid and what you have, that is all that is really important.

Thanks for the reply

I have done some looking into the online price guides and completed ebay auctions and have sort of found approximate values for the coins but never really the specific dates and such. My wording may have been a bit confusing but I was asking more of what people would expect to pay for them with an amount less than the guides like numismedia. such as a percentage off because of the "damage" they had. It's really only a matter of opinion and there is no concrete answer, but I was just wondering what others thought.

The Half Dime cost me $4 and the quarter cost me $3.50(which was spot price at the time) so I bought them as fast as I could and was happy either way

I value really depends on the amount of damage and thats hard to say without seeing the coins....I guess as a general rule of thumb....if its just slight damage that doesn't deter much from the eye appeal of the coin you'd be looking at a full grade lower....example being an EX 40 would see VF 20 money or thereabouts ....with an AU 50 perhaps EX 40.
