Ok,I made more pics of ,what I beleaved ,my 2001 extra column's penny.After looking at it for a loooong time,I figure those are just scratches.Why would some idiot take all this time to scratch a coin like that.Took me idiot houres to figur it out

I think a bored kid in class was running a pen around the bays creating that pattern.

yeah,I got all exited and spend some time on line trying to find a listing of a coin like this one...lol.But thats ok,I am still new at this coin hobby.Its a good way learning.I,m sure there are other poeple that run into things like that.:)

The main thing to remember about doubled dies is that the doubling has to be an exact copy of something else on the design. Doubling doesn't just 'happen' - it has to be the re-creation of another detail. The lines you have don't come close to matching any of the columns on the coin, so this anomaly is not the result of hub doubling. There are a number of different things it could be, and I would be hesitant to speculate on what it is until I had the chance to look at the coin under a microscope.

I can say that I have seen these before and believe them to be rather common.
