I won an auction for 99 cents with a shipping and handling fee of only $6.95.

I'll tell ya what I think after I've heard a few responses.

It all depends upon what the item is, how it is being shipped, etc. I can't give you an informed opinion with so little info.

I have moved this to the ebay discussion area.

What did you win? That seems high if it was a coin or something worth only 99 cents. Did the seller say he would insure it or anything special?

I'm going to state the obvious.

ebay sellers typically use high s&h fees as a sort of reserve. They do this both to avoid fees and to encourage bidders who look for low opening bids. They also do this to discourage returns.

ebay buyers are usually not taken unawares by s&h fees and instead take them into consideration when determining their maximum bid.

I suspect that you valued the item at $8 when you bid. I also suspect that potential competing bidders did not. I should also add that among some bidders, there is a backlash against unnecessarily high s&h fees. As a result you may have gotten a bargain if others who would have valued the item at $8 or more refused to bid.

I have seen worse S&H charges.

Depends on what you have won and where it is being posted from and to.

you guys are too smart here, that's why I posted it in the main coin forum

of course I'm happy with my purchase..texas hit the nail on the head.

In the main coin forum, the newbies would think that purchase and shipping scenario would be outrageous

You all know better lol

Great example Errorcoins!! While some s/h charges may seem excessive, what counts is value obtained for the total price paid.

As for excesive shipping existing, perish the thought as we all know ebay started to work on the problem a few months ago. They're on the job as when a report is sent an automated reply comes back:

Thank you for taking the time to report this listing for violation of our Excessive Shipping Charges policy.

We are working hard to combat the practice of excessive shipping
charges on ebay and very much appreciate your help in identifying sellers who you believe are violating the charge policy.

Please continue to report these types of listings to us. We can only clean up this problem by working together.

Regards,

Reassuring and simple, huh? Although you're never advised of any official action, you can get a clue by watching the auction and the specific seller. Tick-tock!! Watch and Watch!!

Seems like a never ending treadmill as I've been watching the same $ 25.00, $ 29.95, $ 34.95 and $ 49.95 s/h charges from the same Mississippi seller(s) with many DAILY AUCTIONS for MONTHS!!

Your thoughts?

I just don't buy from them. I also send little hate messages every once in a while. Something like, "Does that POS coin really need a police escort?"
