Trying to price PCGS coins off their site...any denomination just leads to the SIGN UP and PAY us page...what's happening, or, do they do this at random, a few times per day, hoping to land a few victims? Worked fine this morning...weirdness

I just hit them without problem, although I got a signup request for Coinfacts.
Fortunately for you, their prices are so ludicrously out of line with real-world results that you're missing little.

That's what I'm saying...click any coin, any listing, MS or PF, and it brings you to this "Subscribe to PCGS CoinFacts for the Expanded PCGS Price Guide -- Prices for Every Coin in Every Grade", rather than the actual price list.

Ah. Strange. I got that message initially on the main page, and it let me through to actual prices without question once I closed it. Never saw it again, after checking half a dozen pages.

I can see the values under the Most Active tab but the Grades 1-20, Grades 25-60, and Grades 61-70 tabs are giving subscription prompts.

I just went there after reading this and it works fine for me. Maybe clear cookies and temporary internet files.... ? Quote: biokemist6: I can see the values under the Most Active tab but the Grades 1-20, Grades 25-60, and Grades 61-70 tabs are giving subscription prompts. Pretty sure that's how it has always been. === Edit: And yeah SsuperDdave is right, it took me a couple weeks to realize that PCGS prices are wishful thinking, even for their own graded slabs ... NGC prices (which I think is the same as Numismedia?) are much more realistic. I think the guides lag behind a bit too because they dont get updated all that often.

Am I the only one who uses that site regularly?
Anyway... It is no fluke. Their site is designed to operate that way. After you click through a few pages, you will get that message asking you subscribe for continued access.

It has been this way at least three months now, maybe longer. I sent them a nasty letter as I am a member of PCGS. Their reply was that they were getting too many hits on the website which was costing them a lot of money and decided that anything other that the first page/tab in the price guide was going to be a pay to view item. What sucks is that even members have to pay to see those other tabs for specific pricing.

Should be able to just interpolate between grades for most coins, with Excel if you want to get a better idea. It will be an estimate with some standard deviation but I think in most cases it will be pretty reasonable close guess.
Maybe I'll post an example later with Excel, using Numismedia prices (assuming that a few prices are unknown). Then we can compare the interpolated guess to the actual value.

It was fine today..no hassles...I'm pretty shocked even members would have to pay extra..that just is bad business...PCGS needs to decide once and for all...pay, or not...it was snooky enough to make the Coin Facts pay-per view, at 10 dollars/month...no way in heck I'll do that, with the same info online on various other sites... You would think "getting hits" would be a good thing, not detrimental, as a few will eventually cave in, and become paying members, which is fine, if you need to send coins in...they must run their own servers, so, I don't buy that story costing them money one bit.

Here is the reply I received from PCGS customer service about this matter when I questioned it:
"I spoke with some of our managers and they let me know that we had to start charging for the amount of time and upkeep it takes to keep the website running properly. We do still keep the general tab of the Price Guide free to anyone.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thank you,
Bailey Varness PCGS Customer Service"

I only use the tab that comes up, any of the other grade tabs have always been pay to view AFAIK. Never seen the pop up telling me to upgrade, I am not a member either. I do get the message if I go to any of the other tabs or try to see detailed info on a coin, makes sense that they would charge for those services.
