Everytime I order from the mint , it will say shipping date will be the next week, then when the coin is sold out , its put off for a month or 2 ?
Is it worth buying from the mint when you have to keep guessing when the actual release date is ?

What I have noticed is that when the Mint actually has stock on something, it ships fast. For example, if you order the 2012 1/2 ounce Maple Leaf Forever, you will get the coin in a few days.
Its hard to ship something if you have zero stock. That being said, why even sell something if you have zero stock? How many people here would have rathered the Mint announce the glass Bumble coin in July instead of two months ago?

What annoys me most is the fact that they keep pushing out new coins even though they've failed horribly at delivering past issues. I can't imaging any other business would have survived the way the mint conducts its business. Being the only player in the market surely is good.

I think part of this is that they don't produce the full run of coins all at once. They'll do a run and see how it sells then do a second, third, fourth.... run if required. So if, for example, the total mintage of a coin is 10,000 they'll only produce 1,000 initially. So I interpret the status of having zero stock (as opposed to being out of stock and no longer available for sale) as meaning they're waiting for the next production run. This approach would make good business sense for them as they don't get stuck with piles of unsold inventory, but with all the recent coins and particularly successful coins I think they've been caught out and are getting further behind on production every month. It would also explain why you have previous releases where the actual mintage is significantly lower than the total mintage stated on the COA's; there just wasn't enough interest to bother doing the last production runs. This is all speculation on my part though.

This might be a contrarian viewpoint, but I don't fully understand the degree to which folks are bothered by the shipping delays. Before I go any further, let me state clearly that I don't support the RCM's routine disregard for published shipping dates in any way, but, in the end, I view them as just a minor inconvenience. If you are a collector that is looking to build a collection that you will enjoy for years to come, what real difference do a few weeks/months of delay upfront matter? You're not out any money until the coins ship, and once you receive the coin(s) you will likely soon forget the frustration over the shipping delay and just enjoy the coin on its own merits. The delay won't cause the coin to be any less attractive, have any less silver/gold, be any smaller or lighter, etc. Of course, if you are looking to "flip" the coins while the market is "hot" for a particular issue, I can more understand the frustration as your profit opportunity may be diminished (or even lost). But as a collector who tends to keep the coins I purchase for years, I don't let the delays get me bothered. Just my thoughts...

Its trying to plan it to have room on my visa, some times I have lots of room on it when I order the coins, but when they get charged 2 and 3 months later, I may not have as much room as I would have liked. If the RCM would take paypal that would be so much easier haha

commems, I agree, and I'm glad you said it! Of course, I'd rather have my coins sooner rather than later, but waiting an additional month or two doesn't bother me much. The exception would be for time sensitive events like the Calgary stampede where it wouldn't make sense to receive them after. I think that being more upfront with estimated delivery times would be helpful for the RCM. If there are unexpected problems then so be it. I would rather have a high quality product than a rushed product. I've waited much longer for things I've ordered like cars, condos, and custom furniture. Now I'm just resigned to the fact the coins will come when they come. For me this is just a hobby; it's not like I'm waiting for a kidney.

I will keep my 20 for 20 subscription with RCM, however I will never order anything else from them. The shipping is a joke, I have items that were ordered over 4 moths ago for birthday gifts, maybe I'll be able to give them next year.

The Perth Mint takes PayPal that's how I pay them. As for shipping times the RCM should be better but I will have no problem waiting for coins that sell out especially when I get them for issue price.

I'm currently experiencing a worrying issue with the RCM. I susbcribed to the O CANADA half once silver coin. I received the first one no problem (the Inukshuk). Different story for the Beaver. It says in my profile that the coin was shipped on Feb 11 via lettermail. My credit card got charged the day after. We are now Feb 25th and still no coin. I called twice and the representatives told me 2 different stories. The first one was that the beaver is actually backordered - even though there is no notice at all on the website. The second rep told me to wait longer and that Canada post can start an investigation only after 30 days... Anybody experienced this before? They are in Ottawa and I'm in Toronto. Should take a few days max to get here.... I ordered a bunch of coins with them before and this is the first time this happens. Frustrating....
