I like the Dansco albums for their ease of use, how well they protect coins and are the least susceptible albums to cause toning due to the metal of the coin reacting to the materials in the pages. I like the Capital Plastics holders which allow the entire collection to be viewed at once. I also have a liking for the older albums by Dansco and holders from Capital Plastics and buy them whenever I have the opportunity.

In 2010, I bought a 19th Century type set holder and an older style 20th Century type set holder by Capital Plastics. I paid $20.00 for the pair. The 19th Century type set is still a work in progress and the 20th Century type set was completed in March of last year. This year I bought a Morgan dollar All Mints holder (Paid $10.00) and a pre 1971 20th Century type set holder (Paid $15.00) both by Capital Plastics. I got two copyrighted 1952 Dansco albums at a coin club meeting for $3.00 each. One is for the Peace dollars and the other is for the Liberty Standing half dollars from 1935. The half dollar album originally sold in The Emporium for 25 cents. I'll eventually fill both with bright coins and let the albums tone them naturally.

Wow, I really like those older Capital holders.
It's nice to see a 20th set that isn't mucked up with State Quarters and such.

Very nice you inspired me to do some of these type sets. Going to do one for each denomination, the morgan and Peace dollar one and the 19th and 20th one.

I usually stick with slab coins for my collection so the coins I will be getting for these will by no means be high end, but I love the idea of having examples of all the different ones that have been produced over the years

Dansco albums are great. I've tried Whitman Bookshelf, Littleton, and I always return to Dansco. Just wish they would have kept the U.S. type set the way it was in the 1970's with everything from 1793. Their newer 7070 album only has major types from 1800.
Silver coins tone real fast on the edges in the Littleton album.

Is it acceptable to intentionally tone coins by putting them in albums that produce acceptable toning?

I don't think keeping coins in an album would be considered intentionally toning the coin. If it tones naturally in the album over time and has nice eye appeal, I don't think it would hurt the value. Some people prefer toned coins and some don't.

I'm liking the Capitol holders. Makes me think about trying to put something like that together too.
