wow that's funny. I dont think its fraud, he is disclosing perfectly well "Problem is I cant find the D". This is a classic Jedi Mind Trick. I love it

He got it at an estate sale. Maybe the D was in a separate lot?
(To be fair, below AG the mintmark is often almost completely obliterated. An in-hand examination might actually be able to find it; somebody labeled the 2x2 as '16-D for a reason, though I wouldn't take that chance.)
