I'm unsure of the grade/value of your coin--but it seems to have a lot of collector demand, according to my Danish catalogue.

I would esimate its value somewhere around $30-$50 in that condition.

Just my 2 cents' worth, I am far from an expert.

That would be the cost of a regular one. This variety costs MUCH more.

? please clarify. The coin itself is a semi-restrike, in a sense. It was created to be exchanged, and only 40,000 of the "restrikes" were made. As far as I know, this coin was not duplicated.

Here is the latest Krause information on your coin, you can see that it is not that much more valuable than the first issue (and even the mintage is not a whole lot lower: 40K for the restrike compared with 71K for the original). Still you got a great deal for $10, I would be all over it at that price.

The thing is, it has a F-VF grade if you dont count scratch. So yea, anywhere from $40-$90.

bought a coin from a melt bin for $10.

so I have a question. If this coin was in a melt box for $10, what was driving that placement. I see the ASW being .0979 and even being generous with melt value that is about $3.

Now I see the collector value so I'm not suggesting that $10 was a bad price, not at all.

But I'm confused as to why it was $10 in a melt box. I may be asking a really ignorant question as I have never bought anything out of a melt box. But it seems to me that it should have had somewhere near $10 of silver to be in that box to even be of interest. I suspect the damage makes in not gradable (or maybe not) Maybe I just don't understand what a $10 melt box.

anyone up for explaining that to me?

No, its that the guy behind the counter was new and tried to rip me off, or at least what he thought was ripping off. He failed miserably.
