CoinHawkeye- Would it be possible for you to post some pics of your coins? that might help us tell you the value and authenticity.

CoinHawkeye The best of the dates potentially is the 1872 As AM which is slightly scarce - it also has an over assayer variety AM/DL. All of the other 8Rs are common coins and are available in higher grades.

But as Archraz points out without pictures it is impossible to tell if the are real or counterfeit, bullion or collectible.

The Pesos (I tend to separate the two types) are all common but you should check the 1902 to make sure it is not the overdate 2/1.

All of the coins are circulated and in similar condition. I have a Red Book for US coins. Is there something like this for Spanish coins?

Spanish coins cannot fit in a RedBook, they have way more numismatic history than the US.
The Krause catalog of world coin is your best bet if you want something wide (that includes all south america)
Oh, BTW, this is a Mexican coin, not a Spanish one ;)

For just Mexican coins, you can get Krause's North American coins for under $10 as an Overstock - the prices do not vary much year to year so a 2011 is fine. If your interests are greater than the World Coins books by Krause are better but they are by century and your group would require two of the books. They are bigger more expensive books and even Overstock they cost $20 per volume. There is a Krause book that covers Spanish and Spanish Colonial countries that goes back to the 1600's - but you might have to buy that one new. So books are available. Check on ebay and Amazon for older editions and you can get a good buy.

The 8R series consists of over 1,400 different dates, mints and assayer combinations with perhaps an equal number of die varieties, Dunigan observes that a complete set has never been and NEVER WILL be assembled. But there are so many different ways to collect that everyone can find a set they can afford.

The Peso coins are considered Modern Mexican. The series is much smaller and contains relatively few die varieties.

The condition of the coins is typical circulated and they likely came to the US from the orient as a bulk silver deal. A few years ago you could get bags of 1000 coins like this for $1 over spot each. Those were fun sorting through. I went through two bags and found a few rarities, but for the past 10-15 years these bullion bags have become too sorted through to be of much value except for bullion.

The 1872 Alamos is not the overassayer, but the date is still listed as slightly scarce by Dunigan. Because of the rim knock I would grade it as high fine or low very fine. Either way it should be worth $20 over spot silver (almost 2x spot).

If the rest are similar in grade - the second Republic issues will be very close to bullion - about spot plus 20% (roughly +$6.) The earlier dates tend to sell better even if they are very common. That is because of all the new collectors entering the market. The older dates will be absorbed into the market faster and prices are expected to rise and stabilize as these lower grade coins filter into collections.

That chopmark adds a little bit of character to the coin!
