Hi , I haven't been on here in a while but I found an interesting quarter it looks its like its the overdate except one thing it doesn't have the overlapping on the bottom 8. If you look at the picture you can see the possible version on top and the real version on the bottom. Possible-New-Version-Of-1918/7-S-Standing-Liberty-Quarter-? If you look at both you can see what looks like perfectly straight lines coming out of the left top of the 8. You can also see what looks like the tip to the 7 on the right hand side. The coin meets other diagnostics as well. It has no step, it has the die marker beside the right star, and although I didn't show it in this pic there is also a definite form on an E next to her knee. In addition to these die markers it meets alot of the die markers from this forum topic " Standing Liberty quarter 1918/7-S Die Varieties?" by RLD14. I hightlighted those die markers as well. What I dont' undersand is where is the rest of the 7. Has anyone seen one like this? Is it a version of the overdate and would it be attributable by any service. Please let me know your thoughts

Thank you Mike

I collect overdates, mostly foreign ones because the US overdates are pretty scarce.
I also know that the more I look at a date, the more likely I'll find something that looks like another digit protruding. Our eyes are good at filling in the blanks--that may be the case here. All my overdates are pretty obvious, like the second photo.

It is an interesting proposition but your photos are way too pixelated to see anything definitely, all I am seeing is digital noise that kinda-sorta looks like it might be something or not. If it is not a recognized die variety, then a TPG will not slab it as such until it is confirmed by a leading expert on the series. You may want to try contacting J.H. Cline, he is probably the top SLQ specialist and has written books on the series.

I will note that all 20th century "overdates" are actually Class 3 Doubled Dies- design hub doubling. For the SLQ, a die was impressed on a 1917 hub, set back on the shelf for some time after annealing, and then hubbed a second time but with a 1918 hub.

I enlarged the pic to try to point out the individual die markers and to make the comparison. I'm at work now so can't put up another photo but if you press the control key on your keypad and the - key it will decrease to the actual size of the photos. Its not so pixelated then and you can stil make out the exact same things. The big one that catches my eye rigt away is the - object sticking out the left top on both of the coins and also the fact it has lots of the other die markers. I posted this pic here also. Its a larger photo and seems sharper, maybe the compression software they use here is causing part of the problem

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this so please keep them coming if you have them.
Thank you Mike
