Still going through a few rolls of Merc. Dimes, am I correct on this being a 45 Micro S?

Can I ask you Merc Pros a question? Anything you suggest I look for that may be less than common but could be a nice find? I am not very Merc Savvy

That's the knob-tail S, which is the most common type for the date. The micro S is much smaller and looks more like a typewriter font with straight serifs.

Look here for date-by-date information. It will tell you about some of the more prominent varieties for each date - there are lots of mintmark varieties other than the micro S that you can look for.

I am still learning to discern the varieties so I may be way off here but I do not think this is a micro S. Interesting to see what the more experienced collectors say.

Captain that's an awesome resource thank you! I thought it was a micro because I compared it to one that was much further from the leaf. According to David Lawrence I wonder what that one it then! Give me a few minutes I'll find it again and snap a pic.

Merc Man,

The Captain is right on the money! Knob tail S.

The most sought after variety is the S over Horizontal S. David Lawrence site has a clear image of that also.

Ooooops! LOL.. Clearly, you can't stump the captain.. eye eye!

I missed the fact that the last leaf is worn, that is what made me think it was further.

I should have known better than to think, I'd find a variety that easily!

Try and find the Trumpet Tail variety for the same year... If you're looking to collect different mint mark style.

The position isn't relevant - you want to look at the style of the mintmark. The mint-mark is hand-punched onto each die so the position varies. There was more than one micro-S die (it's something like 10% or so of the total 1945-S population), so the position of either mint-mark style varies.

I think the micro S is even tinier than the one you posted
