The reason I ask is because this particular one leaves a 'finish' on the slab which means some foreign chemical is sitting on top of it. Does anyone know what is in this stuff and if it would harm a coin if it got into the air inside the slab?
Most cutting compounds are metal oxides. Usually inert in themselves, as far as coins are concerned.
Superfine automotive cutting compounds can work well on plastics. Have used them on car headlight hard plastic lenses.
Automotive cutting compounds are water based cremes, with the cutting compound in suspension. I guess that the slab cannot be washed after polishing because it is not supposed to be waterproof. No one will want the slabbed coin if some sort of gunk is in with the coin.
Probably better to tolerate the scratches on the slab. What is most important is that the coin is protected, not so much the slab.
